About US:

The Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) is a statutory body established under Section 9 of the Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production Act 2013, and in line with the National Oil and Gas Policy for Uganda which was approved in 2008. The PAU’s mandate is to monitor and regulate the exploration, development and production, together with the refining, gas conversion, transportation and storage of petroleum in Uganda. This includes ensuring that petroleum operations in Uganda are carried out in accordance with the relevant laws, regulations, guidelines, statutes and in line with international best practice for the petroleum industry.

 

Job Summary: The Petroleum Engineer (Production) will be responsible for the regulatory aspects of ensuring optimal production performance, real-time production monitoring, selection, and operation of production systems, including artificial lift. He/she will participate in the planning, acquisition, validation, and interpretation of production data. He/she reports to the Senior Petroleum Engineer (Production and Measurement)/

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the monitoring and regulation of acquisition, validation, and interpretation of production-related data.
  • Participate in undertaking field monitoring and reporting on production and injection systems.
  • Contribute to the review of Licensee applications for Annual Production Permits.
  • Contribute to the review of licensee work programs and budgets, especially those related to production systems and operations.
  • Participate in the measurement of produced petroleum with related activities, including back allocation and others.
  • Track production volumes and targets and undertake forecasting of Oil and Gas production to support regulatory decision-making.
  • Support the management of development and production data.
  • Support in ensuring accurate and timely submission of production data by licensees.
  • Support the development of an internal production database.
  • Assist in the evaluation of historical production data and advise on opportunities for production enhancement and optimization, as well as assist in the monitoring and analysis of petroleum reservoir performance.
  • Support in the evaluation and review of field development and production programs, plans, consents, applications, permits, and production forecasts submitted by licensees.
  • Evaluate technical studies relating to production operations, production monitoring, artificial lift systems, production optimization opportunities, and new technologies to ensure technical suitability and regulatory compliance.
  • Undertake any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree (Hons) in Mechanical, Petroleum or Chemical Engineering, Oil and Gas Production or Oil and Gas Engineering from an internationally recognized university.
  • A minimum of one (1) year’s working experience in a similar role in the petroleum sector in a reputable organization.
  • A Master’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Production Engineering, oil and gas engineering, or related disciplines from an internationally recognized university/institution.
  • Membership to at least one relevant professional body.
  • Analytical and evaluative skills.
  • Negotiation skills.
  • High level of integrity.
  • Communication and Report writing skills.
  • Interpersonal skills.
