Lutheran World Federation (LWF) Uganda is part of the LWF World Service and we are currently supporting Congolese and South-Sudanese refugees living in settlements in the districts of Kamwenge, Adjumani, Moyo, Kyangwali and Lamwo respectively.

 

Job Summary: Under the guidance of the Senior Nutrition Officer and Technical lead Communications, SBCC Officer will take lead in designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating all behaviour change communication activities undertaken and implemented by LWF. The SBCC Officer’s role will be to develop and Implement SBCC Strategies: Collaborate with the Senior Nutrition Officer to develop and review educational materials (IEC/BCC) tailored to the local context. Ensure that SBCC strategies are aligned with project and program goals and adhere to standard guidelines. He/she will work with; stakeholders to increase the coverage of recommended IYCF practices and modelling operations towards sustainable mindset & behavioural change using the recommended strategies in relation to the LWF Uganda standards and principles following established LWF Uganda procedures and guidelines

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Implement SBCC Strategies: Collaborate with the Senior Nutrition Officer to develop and review educational materials (IEC/BCC) tailored to the local context. Ensure that SBCC strategies are aligned with project goals and adhere to standard guidelines.
  • Capacity Building and Quality Assurance: Liaise with health facilities to ensure the quality of IYCF/Nutrition capacity-building activities. Provide technical support to ensure proper implementation and adherence to guidelines.
  • Beneficiary Engagement and Accountability: Spearhead the accountability, communication, and participation (AAP) approach among beneficiaries and partners. Integrate gender, CRM, and Child Protection into the SBCC program to promote beneficiary participation and feedback.
  • Culturally Adapted Communication: Collaborate with other sector heads and technical officers to find creative ways to communicate and promote behavior change, adapting strategies to the local context and culture.
  • Community Mobilization: Organize community groups and generate resources to educate them on sustainable community involvement in nutrition, health, sanitation promotion livelihoods, Food security and resilience interventions.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Collaborate with the Communications lead to properly document the project’s human-interest stories, best practices, and lessons learned. Prepare and submit periodic reports on project progress and results.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Implement systematic monitoring and evaluation of SBCC systems to enhance the quality and effectiveness of project outcomes. Conduct field-level monitoring and provide appropriate recommendations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Foster strong partnerships with various stakeholders, including local government and other development actors, to address social behaviors impacting nutrition and health within the target communities.
  • Foster an environment that supports values of women and men, and equal access to information.
  • Undertake other related duties as may be reasonably assigned by the Supervisor.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition & Dietetics, Community Psychology, Social Sciences, or Public Health
  • At least three years of experience in community nutrition, public health related implementation
  • Creativity, Problem Solving and Decision-Making skills;
  • Ability to inspire and build capacity of field staff;
  • Good interpersonal skills and excellent negotiation skills;
  • Information Technology (MS Office, EXCEL, POWER POINT, Virtual meetings);
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines;
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, to remain flexible to a changing environment, and to make decisions independently.
  • Hold a valid riding license
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in implementation of community Nutrition, MIYCAN with ability to articulate linkages with health sensitive programs.
  • Knowledge of word processor, spreadsheet and software use like ENA, SPSS plus other programs advantageous
  • Demonstrated experience and/or personal commitment to promoting gender equality within the work place
  • Diplomatic and culturally sensitive and Must be able to ride a motorcycle
