About US:

The Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) Ltd was established under the Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production) Act and the Petroleum (Refining, Conversion, Transmission and Midstream storage) Act, both of 2013 and incorporated under the Companies’ Act, 2012. It is a limited liability company wholly owned by the Government of Uganda. The overall function of UNOC is to handle the State’s commercial interests in the Oil and Gas industry and ensure that the resource is exploited in a sustainable manner.

 

Job Summary: The Health and Safety Specialist will develop and implement health safety and environment activities in line with company objectives.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Take lead in the coordinating, and implementing of effective health & safety policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure that the company’s objectives are met.
  • Offer technical support to Projects and Operations teams in all aspects of occupational health, and safety.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Company-wide HSE initiatives
  • Ensure Health and Safety compliance and perform regular Health and Safety audits in the areas of operation.
  • Participate in HSE regulatory requirements and standards
  • Provide support in developing HSE project specific plans that comply with Company policies and procedures
  • Keenly track and provide regular HSE performance reporting and manage Safety Statistic reporting for the company
  • Guide UNOC on regulatory requirements and be a liaison with the health & safety regulatory bodies
  • Attend Joint Venture Partner planning and client meetings as required on HSE related matters.
  • Provide HSE aspects of Company Bid Submissions as requested
  • Ensure training, toolbox meetings, and drills are implemented as part of the company’s operational training and HSE program, Conduct HSE trainings and orientation to all new employees. investigate and complete the process for close out of all Accident Investigation Reports and prepare/submit lessons learned
  • Ensure all worksites are HSE compliant with Company policies and safety standards.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Biological or Physical sciences, HSE, Environmental Science, Engineering with specialization in QHSE or any other relevant degree
  • Possession of NEBOSH ICG or IOGC certification in health and safety is highly preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and HSE management systems is highly preferred.
  • Membership to a relevant professional body is added advantage.
  • Minimum of six (6) years’ experience.
  • Any other certification in HSE will be an added advantage.
  • Strong communication, quantitative skills, and detail oriented.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, evolving, energetic, fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, handling multiple demands.
