With 1,800 staff, Enabel manages about 150 projects in twenty countries, in Belgium, Africa and the Middle East.

 

Background

Enabel in Uganda will be implementing a new Country strategy 2023-2027. The overall objective is of the interventions is that “Young people and women in Uganda develop into active, economically independent citizens in a sustainable society that respects human rights and ensures quality basic services’’.

 

WeWork focuses on providing youth, and especially young women, with the right vocational & soft skills training, followed by post-skilling support, to generate an income and contribute to the economy through sustainable, decent work.

 

This objective will be pursued by addressing barriers both from the supply-side (employability) and the demand-side (entrepreneurship & enterprise development). The portfolio will consist of 4 projects in different geographies (in Rwenzori/Albertine, Busoga, West Nile, and Kampala) called “WeWork” and will follow an economic sector logic approach, with a focus on specific value chains in agriculture and the green economy.

 

Job Summary:  Within this context, Enabel is seeking to recruit 1 (ONE) Portfolio Manager to manage the WeWork intervention in order to achieve the specific objectives of the country portfolio and the intervention.

 

Joining Enabel as the Portfolio Manager- We Work, you will be directly reporting to the Resident Representative and you will oversee the team linked to your project.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • You steer the WeWork intervention towards high quality management in order to achieve the country portfolio objectives;
  • You coordinate all the activities of the WeWork intervention in association with the project managers and partners;
  • You lead the team placed under your hierarchical responsibility;
  • You work at Enabel as a strategy officer, you create optimal conditions for implementing the Uganda country portfolio within the set frameworks of Enabel;

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Education Management, Development Studies or other relevant fields related to the area of expertise.
  • At least ten years of relevant experience in steering and managing large international development projects;
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in the private sector development, skilling, Entrepreneurship or related field to the core focus of the WeWork;
  • Minimum 5 years in a Management role with a team of staff;
  • Experience in managing diverse team of Ugandan and international experts and managers is an asset;
  • Experience working in the private sector is an asset.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of project management methodologies;
  • Knowledge in the areas of Agriculture and Green Economy, skilling in the formal and non-formal sectors, entrepreneurship promotion and support to vulnerable youth and women;
  • Monitoring and evaluation competences;
  • You are result oriented;
  • Considering the working language of Uganda and the international environment in which you work, excellent knowledge of English is required.
  • You must also have a working /passive knowledge of both written and spoken French and/or also be willing to continue on the learning curve of French within the first 12 months of employment and thereafter.
