Job Title:   Internship – Monitoring and Evaluation – Uganda Learning Activity (No Experience Jobs)

Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda

Period of Performance:  6 months (May 1, 2023 – November 1, 2023) full-time.

Job Summary:  The short-term Monitoring and Evaluation Intern will support ULA to improve systematic learning through monitoring and evaluation that informs and improves the relevance, quality, best practices, cost-effectiveness, and impact of USAID programs.

 

The selected intern will receive a modest stipend to facilitate/cover commute, communication and daily expenses.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the Learning Team in the conduct of desk research on topics related to USAID’s Development Objectives
  • Perform statistical analyses, synthesize key highlights and actions during internal/external meetings
  • Design monitoring, evaluation, and learning plans, monitor progress, and evaluate activities
  • Contribute to data input and cleaning
  • Provide logistical support during fieldwork including conducting surveys, scheduling interviews, and note-taking
  • Foster cross-learning discussions and exchanges cross the ULA with special interest in Performance and Learning Pillars
  • Take notes during internal meetings and distribute as needed
  • Synthesize and document insights and innovations for sharing and scaling-up through desk reviews, learning sessions, training, and experience sharing
  • Participate in available ULA learning opportunities including workshops, learning sessions, training, and events
  • Utilize USAID guidelines to ensure compliance while drafting reports, work plans, trackers, and other documents
  • Execute other tasks to support ULA as assigned

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelors in Statistics, Economics, Monitoring & Evaluation, or another relevant field.
  • Must have graduated within the previous 24 months. No candidates over 24 months’ post-graduation are eligible for the internship program.
  • Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and display initiative.
  • Excellent skills in using quantitative and qualitative methods.
  • Receptive to feedback and open to learning.
  • Proven integrity, problem solving, analytical and interpersonal skills with ability to multi-task.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
  • Demonstrated skills in research, data management, systems management and reporting.
  • Excellent skills in planning, organizing, preparing facilitation materials and guides.
  • Good analytical, writing, communication and presentation skills.
