Job Title:   Learning & Development Officer

Duty Station:  Kampala, Uganda

Reports to: Senior Human Resource Manager

Special Conditions: Some travel will be required between the SPOUTS head office, the factory in Kampala and other regions of duty in response to the demands of work

Start Date: As soon as possible, ideally mid-April/early May

 

About US:

SPOUTS of Water LTD is a for-profit social business that manufactures and sells the Purifaaya™ ceramic water filters and distributes rocket stove technology. SPOUTS was created in Uganda in 2014 with the simple idea that ceramic water filters could be made and sold locally, providing an amazingly effective product through a sustainable business model. SPOUTS is currently the largest ceramic water filter manufacturer in Africa.

 

Since SPOUTS sold its first Purifaaya in 2015, it has distributed 130,000+ filters to East Africa providing over 650,000 end-users with long-term access to safe drinking water. SPOUTS is a rapidly-growing organization with over 500 employees across Uganda and Rwanda. The next step is to expand its operations throughout East, West and Southern Africa.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Learning and Development Strategic focus

  • To study the organisation strategy and compare key competence requirements with current levels, to identify strategic focus areas and training needs, aligned to organisation objectives.

Learning & Development infrastructure development

  • To create design and deliver the statutory, skilling and personal developmental training requirements for new and existing staff across all areas of the organisation.
  • Monitor regulatory requirements for staff training and competence and ensure that all requirements are reflected in all statutory and mandatory training.
  • To create, design, and deliver L&D solutions to support the organisational learning and development using a blend of methods including computer based, self-managed learning, remote delivery, face to face and on job learning as appropriate.
  • Ensuring that every L&D intervention has clear business-focused aims that enable robust evaluation of the training’s effectiveness, and measurement of return on investment.
  • Leads the implementation of the development infrastructure in the organisation, including career paths, trainings, competency definition, critical learning interventions and systems.
  • Actively enables a learning culture in the organisation, through utilisation of optimal learning approach, methods and assessment.
  • Aligns Learning & Development processes, practices, frameworks and tools in the organisation.
  • Develops and manages relationships with external partners in the organisation such as educational institutions, training agencies among others.
  • Develops and implements effective Learning & Development metrics that drive and support organisation performance.
  • Sources organisation’s specific learning solutions, working in conjunction with other functional leaders
  • Implements effective leadership programs to build leaders at all levels, with the required skills and competencies to lead and generate confidence in the future.
  • Ensures effective integration of talent management, performance management and Learning & Development in the organisation, to ensure optimal organisation and individual development.
  • Ensures alignment between scarce skills, priorities, and business requirements for pipeline creation.
  • Ensures legislative and governance compliance in all aspects of Learning & Development in country.
  • Actively influences critical decisions with regard to learning and development strategic priorities, frameworks, processes and practices for the organisation.
  • Help managers develop their team members through career pathing
  • Support the HR team with organising staff engagement events.
  • Any other duties added from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Qualifications

  • Minimum requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in HR Management, Business Administration, Social Sciences or Industrial Psychology.
  • Added advantage: Other trainings and certification related to Performance management, Learning and Development

Experience

  • Minimum requirement: Four years of experience in Learning & Development in a busy organisation
