About US:

Metropol Uganda Limited is a Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) licensed by Bank of Uganda in 2015 to offer CRB services to the Ugandan market and has been in operation since then. Metropol provides CRB services to Bank of Uganda regulated financial institutions including Commercial Banks, Credit Institutions and Microfinance Deposit Taking Institutions (MDIs) following the enactment of a legal framework (Amendment to the Banking Act) that mandates banks to share credit performance data on their customers.

 

Job Summary: Responsible for the overall provision of IT services in MUL, procuring and maintaining the necessary IT Support Infrastructure for smooth operations of the company. The IT Manager is also responsible for conceptualizing and developing new product solutions that will drive MUL’s business growth as well as ensuring a secure IT and Data driven environment.

Internal –Executive Director, Heads of Department/Section and other Heads of Department in sister companies.

 

External –Users of MUL systems in Financial Institutions, Service Providers, Technology providers, Regulators.

 

WHAT WORK WILL BE DONE IN YOUR ROLE

  • Participate in the formulation of the company’s Strategic and Business plans
  • Collect staff feedback on IT processes and procedures and how they affect their
  • Refine existing products and solutions to meet the ever-changing customer needs and preferencesaimed at retaining existing and attracting new customers

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support LANs, WANs, network segments, Internet, and intranet systems.
  • Support all applications leased by clients and internal users
  • Maintain and support system efficiency operations.
  • Ensure design of a system that allows all components to work properly together.
  • Maintain network and system security.
  • Monitor networks to ensure security and availability to specific users.
  • Evaluate, modify and report periodic systems performance to support capacity planning.
  • Identify user needs and recommend/implement necessary interventions.
  • Design and deploy networks (network address assignment, routing protocols and routing table configuration).
  • Assign configuration of authentication and authorization of directory services.
  • Maintain network facilities in individual machines, such as drivers and settings of personal computers as well as printers.
  • Maintain network servers such as file servers, VPN gateways, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Administer servers, desktop computers, printers, routers, switches, firewalls, phones, software deployment, security updates and patches.
  • Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project or operational requirements.
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs.
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
  • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary and as per policies and procedures.
  • Perform regular file archival and purging as deemed necessary.
  • Create, change, and delete user accounts per request.
  • Provide IT support per request from various users as per laid down procedures.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot IT issues.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures.
  • Support CI/CD tools integration/operations/change management and maintenance
  • Enable DevOps by moving code from Dev /Test to staging and production.

Troubleshoot issues along the CI/CD pipeline

  • Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.
  • Conduct ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
  • Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
  • Maintain data center environment and monitoring equipment
  • Manage end user IT requirements
  • Work with other business units and external clients to resolve issues and come up with new solutions that drive business performance.
  • Manage external clients’ requirements and expectations on Metropol systems including systems integration and other related matters.
  • Executing the company strategy for new data set acquisition
  • Data template management including validation rules
  • Ensuring that data quality standards are maintained
  • Ensuring that data is fresh and accurate
  • Support in devising and establishing the company’s data quality procedures, standards and specifications
  • Providing management reports on PI data quality
  • Providing insights, trends and recommendations to the business, development and analyst team regarding the data held by the company
  • Collaborating with IT teams and management to devise a data strategy that addresses industry requirements
  • Researching new opportunities for data acquisition
  • Identifying and evaluating current data management technologies
  • Training clients and internal users on Metropol Data Management
  • Summarizing error logs, error analyses and success rates per PI segment
  • Monitoring data submission by Participating Institutions
  • Facilitating newly recruited Participating Institutions (PIs) to submit data to Metropol as per the internal policies.
  • Running validation tests against client’s data and ensuring that any exceptions are handled.
  • Ensuring that the client’s data is updated as per the Data Quality Management policies.
  • Communicating data quality reports to the PI’s.
  • Communicating data quality reports to Bank of Uganda
  • Liaising with PIs to ensure that their data is updated at least on a monthly basis
  • Research on disputes between lenders and subjects of credit profiles

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal applicant must hold a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, BIT, Software Engineering or a related field.
  • A Postgraduate qualification in any of the above fields is an added advantage.
  • At least five years relevant work experience in a busy IT driven working environment.
  • Strong knowledge in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Visio.
  • Working knowledge of Unix/Linux, and Windows operating system
  • Working knowledge of postgress and Mongo databases and database design.
  • Microsoft Certifications MCSA and MCSE
  • Linux Systems Administration certification and other qualifications like

CCNA, CCNP

  • Proven and thorough knowledge of LAN and WAN technologies, such as VSAT, WLANs, VPN, etc.
  • General skills and certifications for Data Centre environment and physical security management
