EnerGrow provides demand stimulation services for utility companies and mini-grid companies, increasing consumption of energy amongst existing connections and incentivizing new customers to seek a connection. EnerGrow is an appliance financing company based in Uganda, founded in December 2017.

 

Job Summary:  EnerGrow is rapidly expanding and exploring new product verticals that will unlock additional revenue streams and drive growth for the business. We, therefore, have a very start-up culture of experimentation, idea generation, hard work, and chipping in wherever help is needed on the team.  We currently manage several donor-supported projects all driving EnerGrow toward becoming a sustainable asset-financing business.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To maintain through the Finance department the general ledger, the chart of accounts, and the other financial records, ensuring that they comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP)
  • To maintain records of all incomes and expenditures in accordance with the selected method of accountancy (double entry and cost center)
  • To ensure compliance with all operational, financial, registration, and auditing protocols within Uganda and/or as required by investors’ procedures
  • To ensure that budgets, financial statements, and reports are made available completely and timely
  • To monitor cash flows and cash needs of the EnerGrow Platform in order to avoid cash crises
  • To ensure compliance with the accountability requirements of the individual projects, EnerGrow platform, and the national laws of Uganda
  • To ensure that the procurement procedures for duly approved purchases are enforced, in coordination with the procurement team and in compliance with the established procurement rules
  • Ensure that the Asset register is kept up to date

Drive Operational Excellency

  • Drive working capital management by managing inventories, accounts receivables, payables, and cash in order to ensure effective cost management
  • Pursue cost optimization by ensuring that the entire procurement of the company happens at the most optimal cost and delivers real value for money audits

Reporting and Risk management

  • Drive local reporting and ensure on-time, accurate submissions while ensuring compliance with organization guidelines
  • Ensure compliance framework is adhered to by proactively managing internal audits, closing any findings timeously, and implementing suggestions/recommendations as applicable
  • Ensure timely submission of tax returns and all statutory obligations
  • Prepare IFRS-compliant, consolidated monthly/quarterly/annual management accounts as well as bi-annual results for release to the market
  • Manage the general ledger on a monthly basis to ensure the accuracy of posting and accuracy of all supporting documents

Financial Controls

  • Assist in maintaining and developing efficient internal control systems to record and protect company assets and liabilities
  • Assist in reviewing, formulating, and implementing sound financial policies that minimize financial risk
  • Provide support in reviewing and putting in place efficient, sound, and cost-effective procurement processes, practices, and procedures in compliance with the Company policies

Audits

  • Assist with quarterly audit reviews and annual financial statement audits
  • Assist in working with external consultants as and when required on matters requiring compliance and expertise

Financial Planning and Analysis

  • Assist on timely preparation of the annual budget and forecasts and analysis of expenditures for different departments and track planned activities
  • Assist on timely production of management budgetary control reports and highlight budget variances in order to meet the Company’s annual and long-term objectives
  • Assist on revenue forecasting process and engage with cross-functional teams to ensure delivery of the plan

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree in Accounting/ Finance
  • Two years of experience in a similar position
  • Solid proficiency with accounting (Quick Books), along with Microsoft Office
  • Applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work in a multicultural diverse environment and under pressure
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to strict confidentiality involving internal/ external information
  • Ability to plan, manage and follow through with assignments and communicate at all levels of the organization in a timely and professional manner
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team with minimal supervision
