About US:

The Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) is a statutory body established under Section 9 of the Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production Act 2013, and in line with the National Oil and Gas Policy for Uganda which was approved in 2008. The PAU’s mandate is to monitor and regulate the exploration, development and production, together with the refining, gas conversion, transportation and storage of petroleum in Uganda. This includes ensuring that petroleum operations in Uganda are carried out in accordance with the relevant laws, regulations, guidelines, statutes and in line with international best practice for the petroleum industry.

 

Job Summary: To support the interpretation of Petroleum Engineering data to enable assessment of Uganda’s petroleum resources in a bid to expand the resource base of the country and ensure comprehensive assessment of all discoveries.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze all petroleum engineering data of all exploration projects.
  • Interpret all engineering technical reports submitted by exploration licensees to ensure efficient management of petroleum resources.
  • Support the monitoring and regulation of the implementation of engineering studies, and well drilling for exploration companies to ensure value for money and sustainability of the country’s resource.
  • Support the identification and/or development engineering related guidelines relevant for enhancement of compliance by exploration licensees to strengthen the policy, legal, and regulatory framework.
  • Assess proposed new petroleum engineering technologies by exploration licensees.
  • Participate in the establishment and maintenance of a high-quality petroleum engineering database to ensure efficient management of the country’s Petroleum, and other related data.
  • Undertake any other assignments as may be directed from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal applicant must hold an Honors Bachelor’s degree  in  Physical  Sciences,  Engineering,  or  related disciplines from an internationally recognized institution
  • A Master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from an internationally recognized University.
  • Membership to at least one relevant professional body
  • At least one year of relevant working experience in the Oil and Gas sector
  • Analytical and Report Writing skills.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Negotiation skills.
  • Communication skills.
  • Evaluative skills.
  • Data Analysis skills.
  • Technical skills related to Petroleum Engineering.
