Terms of Reference for Wheat Agronomics Consulting Services

 

Introduction

Ntake Bakery and Company, in partnership with Private Sector Foundation Uganda and the Mastercard Foundation- Young Africa Works, is implementing the Work Opportunities in Wheat (WOW) Project under the – Enhancing Lead firm structure for youth employment in Uganda.

 

The projects targets to create 4,956 decent and fulfiling work opportunities for youth aged 18-35 years along the wheat value chain in districts; Kapchorwa, Kween Bukwo, Rubanda, Kabale, Kisoro, Rukungiri Kanungu and Bundibugyo

 

Objective of the assignment

Overall objective is to improve wheat production and household incomes through scaling up of improved wheat technologies

 

Specific Objectives of the assignment

  • To enhance the adoption of improved high yielding wheat varieties and production practices through demonstration and popularization
  • To improve availability and access to improved wheat varieties through accelerated seed multiplication.
  • To build the capacity of participating young farmers in good agronomic practices (GAPs) of wheat seed and grain.

 

Scope of Work (SoW)

The consulting assignment will include the following tasks/ deliverables:

 

High yielding Planting Seed Bulking

This requires to access Elite wheat lines that have shown yield potential of up to 4 t/ha both under low-altitude (1000-1500masl) and high-altitude (1500-2800masl) areas.  These varieties which grow in the upland areas will be multiplied making planting seed available.

Cost-Effective Production Technologies

There will also be need demonstration for cost-effective production technologies for enhanced productivity (weed management, fertilizer use and other GAPs) alongside the improved varieties.

Wheat Seed Farmers Capacity Enhancement

These are intended to enhance the capacity of wheat seed farmers through mobilization, sensitization and training on good agronomic practices.

Wheat production trainings

This is to conduct trainings focused on wheat production and quality control to foster acceptability of the produce.

Grain Quality Analysis

Needed for quality control through all the processes.

Field and Farmer Open Days

The project will organize field and farmer open days at different growth stages of the crop for farmers and MSME’s in the value chain to visit and make business deals.

 

Consultant/service provider Qualification

The lead consultant should demonstrate the following qualifications:

Selection Criteria

Submitted proposals will be evaluated based on the following weighted criteria

  1. Technical proposal – 40%
  2. Financial proposal – 40%
  3. Previous experience – 20%
