Refugee Rising was founded in 2018 to fill a critical protection gap for the most vulnerable refugee women in Uganda. Working to advocate for refugee women through providing shelter, psychosocial support and job training to equip women for their future. Refugee Rising provides comprehensive services to refugee survivors of SGBV. Our mission is to help women feel secure, be restored and empowered to rise beyond their experiences.

 

Job Summary:  Reporting to the Executive Director, the program coordinator will lead the day-to-day direct implementation of the program activities in partnership with the program team. The job holder will develop and maintain annual work plans and budgets for program activities in line with approved budgets. Working with the Executive Director, the job holder will be responsible for leading, coordinating, managing and reporting on the design, development and implementation of the program in accordance with Refugee Rising program objectives, also supporting the development and accomplishment of the vision for future programming.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Program Management

  • Take a leading role in providing technical direction for the Refugee Rising programme, supporting the development and implementation of workplans.
  • Work closely with Administration to develop effective systems and logistical support regarding new participant entry and onboarding into RR.
  • Responsible for delivering on agreed upon progress reports to the Executive Director in the monitoring of the beneficiaries’ progress and program activities. Provision of progress updates on program implementation and technical direction.
  • Overseeing procurement lists for meals, residential facilities and training
  • Develop daily activities schedule with program team and provide accountability.
  • Build processes to ensure organisational learning is embedded into the Project Cycle Management.
  • In collaboration with the program team and partners including UNHCR, OPM and others, ensure that internal and external reporting requirements are met in an effective and timely manner.

Case Management

  • Lead on the onboarding process of participants, through orientation and induction on code of conduct and document completion. Monitoring of the client’s progress and facilitating assistance, as needed
  • Overseeing the completion of necessary applications for medical services and appointments.
  • Maintain Participant documentation in both physical and digital documentation formats, updating and maintaining these throughout the participants stay with the facility.
  • Providing progress documentation on daily services provided, goals met and the learning and vision for future services.

Staff Management, Development and Learning:

  • Under the direction of the Executive Director, supervise program staff stationed in Uganda, providing day to day direction and leadership.
  • Provide technical support and on-going on-the-job training, staff development and coaching to staff in the technical (program) areas.
  • Work in collaboration with the Executive Director to ensure that RR’s policies are fully integrated and implemented in all aspects of work.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Social work and Social Administration, Development studies, Community psychology, Business Administration or a related social science field.
  • A minimum of 8 (eight) years of experience working in humanitarian/ development work including in refugees’ settlements
  • Technical expertise and experience in Case management protection, programming in post conflict setting is an advantage.
  • Thorough knowledge of the various aspects of physical, sexual and emotional violence. Commitment to refugee and women’s empowerment

 

Personal Competencies:

  • Cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity. The ability to relate to individuals and groups of different abilities and cultures in an empathetic, non-judgmental manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Experience of programme design and oversight of the development of daily activities schedules.
  • Self-driven with ability to work under pressure and minimal supervision. Flexible, patient and adaptable to a changing environment.
