About RSCE:

The United Nations Regional Service Centre in Entebbe, Uganda (RSCE) is a shared service Center established in 2010. The RSCE provides administrative and operational support to UN peacekeeping operations and small political offices across Africa.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Develop programmes designed to improve the quality of life of staff members within the Center;
  • Monitor environmental factors that could lead to unhealthy life style;
  • Increase and improve staff awareness and information about social and recreational opportunities available in the mission through, among others, the following activities:
    • Contributing to the induction training of new staff,
    • Producing a guide to the local amenities,
    • Regularly updating information posted on the intranet system and the Center’s welfare Portal,
    • Facilitating access to housing information as much as possible,
    • Developing links with local resources as appropriate,
    • Working with staff welfare committees for design and implementation of relevant welfare programs;
  • Collaborate with the Training Unit to implement “Cultural Awareness” training for staff
  • Develop regular recreational activities for staff (such as outings, film nights and other social events) and work in partnership with administration to secure a staff recreation space and gym;
  • Facilitate increased welfare initiatives in the team sites through offering support to committees and fostering the development of new committees;
  • Participate in developing expertise, profile, and capacity of the Welfare Unit by identifying funding opportunities;
  • Assess welfare needs within the mission and provide a focal point for welfare initiatives;
  • Act as a non-clinical counselling resource to any staff member within The Center requiring non-judgmental support and assistance in resolving any personal and/or work-related problem(s) in consultation with the Staff Counsellors as necessary;
  • Design and implement non-clinical counselling programmes aimed at addressing consequences of
  • Provide mediation services, together with relevant stakeholders and when needed, for workplace conflict management and resolution
  • Coordinate with the relevant Unit at the Center to streamline staff welfare and staff wellbeing in the Business Continuity Plan of the Center
  • Organize memorial services for international civilian staff in cases of death in the mission area and acts as focal point/resource person for these families;
  • When working with national staff or (non-)governmental counterparts, including Implementing Partners (IPs), the incumbent is strongly encouraged to set aside dedicated
  • time for capacity development through coaching, mentoring and formal and on-the-job training;
  • Perform other related duties as may be required.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Social work
  • At least three years of experience in Social sciences
  • Candidate must be a national of a country other than the country of assignment.
  • Languages: English, Level: Fluent, Required. French, Level: Working knowledge, Desirable
  • Age: 27 – 80 years
