About US:

Uganda Tea Development Agency is a management agency for the small-holder owned Tea factories of Buhweju, Igara, Kayonza and Mpungu.

 

Job Summary:  The purpose of the General Manager position is to provide overall oversight to Buhweju tea factory and supervise all operations of the factory company in the different departments and ensure optimum utilization of company resources and maximization of outputs and profits for the benefit of all stakeholders. This is a Senior Management position.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates, facilitates and supports the Board in the formulation and development of policies for the company.
  • Interprets and facilitates the implementation of Board policies by all employees and HODs.
  • Leading in setting targets and coordinate the work of different departments to ensure achievements of those targets.
  • Leading the management team in developing corporate plans, annual operating plans and budgets as well as developing various strategies that enable achievements of targets.
  • Supervising HOD’s at the tea factory and rating their performance.
  • Receiving and analyzing departmental reports for any necessary follow up actions/ issues and provides appropriate feedback to the respective heads.
  • Ensure good custody of the company assets.
  • Ensure and foster good public relations with all stakeholders of the company.
  • Facilitating the preparations and organising of shareholders annual or special general meetings.
  • Prepares management and financial reports and submits them to the board or the management agency as may be required.
  • Participating where necessary in negotiating the terms of agreements on behalf of the Tea Factory.
  • Oversees and approves procurements for the company in accordance with set down policies and procedures.
  • Carryout any other responsibilities as may be assigned to him/her by the Chief Executive Officer.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Engineering, Food Science and Technology, Business Administration, Management and Economics.
  • Advanced degrees in the mentioned areas above plus additional qualifications in Project Planning and Management, Accounting and Finance and or any relevant areas will be an added advantage.
  • At least seven years of experience managing and supervising in the tea industry or agricultural/ manufacturing unit.
  • Ability to motivate the workforce to attain maximum productivity
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Good industrial and public relations.
  • Stress tolerance.
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure
  • Good leadership skills
  • Good research skills
  • Adequate knowledge of project planning
  • Ability to put in extra hours of work.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Must be ready and willing to work upcountry.
