Job Summary:  Laterite is looking for up to 120 brilliant and highly motivated healthy people to assist with our fieldwork activities in Uganda. The project location will be Kibaale, Kagadi and Kyenjojo districts of Uganda. This position is offered on a project-basis. Successful candidates will be added to our database and be contacted based on the availability of positions. Enumerators will also benefit from training sessions aimed at improving their professional development.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend training sessions
  • Conduct interviews in the field using survey instruments and electronic tablets
  • Test questionnaires designed by Laterite in the field
  • Travel to different locations to conduct field preparation, contacting local authorities and identifying potential research participants
  • Document issues that arise during fieldwork and communicate them to the supervisor
  • Keep track of daily expenses
  • Transmit data collected daily
  • Assist in any other tasks related to the delivery of the project at hand
  • Engage in a feedback session with the field team during the project and upon its completion




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Social Sciences, ICT, Statistics, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Experience in conducting quantitative and qualitative data collection in Uganda in lieu at least one year of experience of field-based data collection preferably in the Toro, Bunyoro and Ankole sub-regions of Uganda and can work with minimal supervision.
  • Previous experience in conducting quantitative and qualitative data collection.
  • One to two years of experience of field-based data collection preferably in the Bunyoro, and Toro subregions of Uganda
  • Our ideal candidates should preferably be residents of the Enumeration Area and should have experience in collecting quantitative data using Survey CTO
  • Proven ability to ask the questions exactly as they appear in the questionnaire
  • Ability to maintain a neutral attitude with the respondents
  • Good understanding and skills in properly managing respondents, interview locations and maintaining the pace of the interview.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team, and ability to effectively solve problems and adapt to changing situations.
  • Good computer skills – especially the ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Familiarity with basic smartphones apps henceforth the ability to use Survey CTO or ODK data collection platforms.
  • Willingness to work in rural areas and on weekends, if required
  • Willingness to travel and stay away from home for long periods of time, usually up to 60 days
  • Willingness or experience in coffee harvesting or coffee cherry picking.
  • Ability to perform heavy tasks and walk long distances
  • Sharp problem-solving skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Consistent punctuality, effective team-player, and quick learner
  • Excellent communication skills, good team player and ability to cope with unpredictable field conditions.
  • Must present a very high degree of morals, honesty, and integrity.
  • Those who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Fluent and Excellent verbal and written proficiency in English and Rutoro, Runyoro and Runyankole

 

Additional information: Based on interview assessment and relevant experience, Laterite will select candidates to serve as Field Supervisors.
