Job Summary:  The Financial Controls Manager will support the CFO/Head of Finance in developing, implementing, and reviewing financial and other internal controls within the Tugende Group.

 

To establish a Strategic Financial Reporting Controls Framework (FRCF) for the IFRS financial statements, statutory and tax reporting for the Group and its subsidiaries. Primarily includes governance, FRCF methodology, preparation and documentation of financial controls processes, risk assessments, design and implementation of controls. Plan and complete test of controls, and evaluate, report and resolve control deficiencies to ensure the design adequacy and operating effectiveness of financial reporting controls.

 

What you will learn from this job

  • How to develop and update Tugende’s financial policies regarding the business models, risk and internal control systems and procedures.
  • How to build relations, interact and work interfaces between Tugende’s finance and other departments’ functions within the Group.
  • Understand critical financial statement data for testing required for management decisions and how to minimize financial statements and other risks that may exist.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Internal Control Systems, Policies, and procedures

  • Ensure that the Group has established a sound system of controls over financial reporting to ensure reliable and timely financial information in monthly, quarterly, and annual reports by:
  • Design, assess, implement, and monitor a robust Financial Reporting Controls Framework (FRCF), governance and methodology.
  • Incorporate key considerations into the FRCF: mapping to the COSO internal controls framework; governance; programme management; materiality & tolerances; scope; implementation plan.
  • Develop and implement the controls testing process, including conducting reviews and testing of financial reporting controls compliance by process owners along with monitoring and overseeing the remediation of deficiencies identified.
  • Coordinate with external auditors to ensure the effectiveness of the controls are tested and the resolution of any audit findings.

Financial Policies and Procedures

  • Develop and update Tugende financial policies and procedures manual in line with current business processes and reporting framework across the Group.
  • Develop Group policies for controls and control objectives for core financial reporting processes

Statutory Requirement and Review.

  • Managed Tugende tax exposure concerning; PAYE, VAT, NSSF, Income Tax, WHT and other potential statutory obligations.
  • Ensure timely review and filing of tax and other statutory returns within the Group and advise on current and future tax exposure.
  • Perform internal tax health check and report and resolved potential variances on each tax head accordingly.

Transfer Pricing Policies, Procedures and Reporting

  • Developing, executing, and maintaining Tugende’s intercompany transfer pricing policies ensure they are in line with current best practices.
  • Analyzing & setting arm’s-length prices, managing intercompany transactions within the Group.
  • Preparing transfer pricing documentation reports by reviewing transactions raises debit and credit notes and ensures recognition across group financial reports.
  • Assisting with external audits, by reviewing, reconciling and submitting intercompany transaction reports to external auditors and management.

Business Process and Risk Management

  • Identify, assess, document and monitor business processes (including financial systems) that affect the Group’s financial reporting, including the use of process narratives & flowcharts
  • Coordinate with external auditors to ensure the effectiveness of the controls are tested and the resolution of any audit findings.
  • Collaborate and assist with risk management activities and reporting within the Group.
  • Work closely with stakeholders across functions in a fast-paced environment, able to provide a solution to issues.
  • Stay current on best practices and the latest thinking regarding processes, risk management and controls.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and communicate with different levels across the organization functions.
  • Develop and deliver training and training materials for business process owners regularly to build knowledge and understanding of risks and controls in the Group.
  • Work with process owners to scope, design, and implement controls to address critical risks and ensure design adequacy and operating effectiveness of financial controls.
  • Lead, document, and report on risk assessment of the business processes in respect of materiality & tolerances misstatements in financial reporting, including the establishment of risk ratings for use in Group reporting.

Reporting

  • Provide ad hoc reports and status on the above responsibilities





Qualification, Knowledge & abilities, Experience and skills;

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative field
  • MBA or Masters’s Degree in a related discipline is desirable
  • Should possess an advanced professional certification such as CPA, ACCA, ICAEW, CIMA, CFA
  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience at least 3 of which should be at a senior level.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 ERP systems would be highly desirable.
  • Review and analytical skills with a keen eye for detail.

  • Auditing and risk management experience is critical for this role, especially as a senior associate over the last three years or before in a public accounting firm or industry.
  • Strong understanding of accounting, financial processes, including risk and financial controls.
