About IOM:

Established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is committed to the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits both migrants and society in general. As the United Nations Migration Agency, IOM works with its partners in the international community to assist in meeting the growing operational challenges of migration, advance understanding of migration issues, encourage social and economic development through migration, and uphold the wellbeing and human rights of migrants. The IOM constitution gives explicit recognition to the link between migration and economic, social and cultural development, as well as to the principle of freedom of movement of persons. As at the end of 2016, IOM had 166 member states, with eight countries holding observer Status.

 

IOM works in the four broad areas of migration management: migration and development, facilitating migration, regulating migration, and addressing forced migration. Cross-cutting activities include the promotion of international migration law, policy debate and guidance,protection of migrants’ rights, migration health and the gender dimension of migration.

 

Job Summary:  The UN Volunteer will support all different aspects in terms of policy development and the mainstreaming of migration, as a cross-cutting issue, in national adoption processes as well as the UNCF and subsequent implementation of programmes.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of the programme Coordinator (PC) and close collaboration with Programme Coordination and support Unit (PCSU), the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

Project development and donor liaison

  • In coordination with the PSCU support the development of new projects proposals and programmes.
  • Support the PC and PCSU in resource mobilization efforts in the CO, including supporting the development, management and monitoring of a resource mobilization strategy in close coordination with the PSCU
  • Support in ensuring project development and reporting standards abide by IOM policies and procedures

Program Implementation

  • Contribute to the various aspects of the Programme Support Unit (PSU), including Communication and Public Information, M&E, Project development and reporting
  • Maintain up to date knowledge and archiving of all programme implementation in Uganda and support the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) framework of the CO.
  • Maintain, contribute to, and where necessary establish, knowledge management systems covering both migration policy, internal policies, operational issues, and pro-grammes within IOM Uganda
  • Support project managers in monitoring projects to generate data and inform/identify in advance implementation challenges with the view to identify solutions to support the delivery of activities within the designated timeframe.
  • Liaise between different units to ensure that IOM financial standards and reporting re-quirements are met and observed.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal applicant must hold a Bachelor degree or equivalent in International Development, International Relation, Monitoring and Evaluation, Law, Social Sciences or another related field.
  • English, Level: Fluent, Required
  • Driving license
  • 0 years of experience in Demonstrated interest and/or experience (up to 2 years) in development projects or in assistance to communities.
  • Candidate must be a national of a country other than the country of assignment.
  • Candidates must be between 22 and 29 years of age throughout the initial contract.
  • Candidates who have already served as UN Youth Volunteer funded by the Government of Korea are not eligible to apply (former UN University Volunteers are eligible).
