Work Schedule: 2 Days Per Week

 

About US:

Imagine Her is a non-proft working to accessibly provide young vulnerable women and youth with a robust innovation skillset and essential resources to create sustainable social ventures and social impact in Uganda. We do this by providing tools and collaborating with communities as key advocates to prepare pathways for their socio-economic independence.

 

Job Summary:  As part of our work, we are implementing a Project dubbed Hello World which we seek to fill some vacant positions. Project Hello World provides educational resources and Internet connectivity to isolated and vulnerable communities. We do this by building solar-powered, outdoor Internet kiosks— so that underprivileged children and adults can educate themselves, communicate with others, and have a voice in the global community. To achieve this, we mobilize communities to build Hello Hubs which are solar-powered outdoor Internet kiosks, and state-of-the-art technology including high-quality solar panels, satellite connectivity, rugged, waterproof touch-screen screens, camera, and audio equipment. Hello Hubs are designed to withstand extreme outdoor weather and are energy-autonomous, which means that they can bring connectivity and education to even the most isolated communities. It is an exciting time to join the team as we have plans for 63 new Hubs over the next two years

 

Position Overview: The Communications Associate will help represent Uganda, the Ugandan team, and the Ugandan Hub Communities more completely in our communications. He/She will help provide updates on significant news stories and statistics in Uganda, such as out-of-school children, education technology initiatives as well as other things that may be useful or of interest.

 

Included in this role is ongoing communication and engagement with the Hub communities. Using already active WhatsApp groups to record and format stories told by Hub users about the Hub, how they use it and how others benefit.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identifying and recording stories from multiple Hub chat groups and CSO groups.
  • Working with CSOs to identify a variety of stories, representing a variety of Hub users
  • Identifying stories that may be used on our social media channels, and seeking consent to share
  • Photo organization and classification
  • Helping organize stories into a usable pitch document that can be shared with funders, and maintaining the document
  • Flagging and forwarding local, regional, and national news stories relevant to Hello World’s work.
  • Working with Hub communities to identify candidates for ongoing and long-term case studies.
  • Ensure that everyone is represented and has their story told.
  • Recognizing safeguarding concerns and taking steps to ensure that safeguarding is prioritized at each stage.
  • Arranging and conducting interviews with members of Hub communities using interview templates.
  • Updating and supporting the team with www.myhellohub.org, our community-led site, where appropriate.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Essential

  • The applicant must hold a Degree qualification in relevant subjects (Journalism, English, Communications, Politics…)
  • Experience using social media and an understanding of what works
  • Knows a good story when they see one.
  • Must be willing to work unsupervised.
  • Willingness to travel, some visits to Hub Builds sites are a possibility.
  • Good knowledge of Google Suite.
  • Excellent level of written and spoken English.
  • Detailed and thorough.
  • Interested in people and the stories that they tell.

 

Desired

  • Understanding of Adobe suite programs such as photoshop or illustrator.
  • Photography and video skills.
  • Good knowledge of Tiktok
  • Knowledge of the development sector.
  • Language skills
  • Experience with translation.
