Job Summary:  The Analyst, Reconciliation will provide effective reconciliation capability for an allocated portfolio through effective reconciliation and management of the Bank’s Products & Payment Platforms, Internal suspense accounts to proactively track non-conforming items for prompt resolution, guard against errors and fraud, prevent a build-up of ageing entries in the reconciliations report which could culminate to losses to further assess potential operational risk to the bank through new products, solutions, channels and third parties. This role requires an understanding of accounting, basic data and analytical skills to access, combine and analyse multiple data sources preferred

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Daily review of GL balances for the suspense accounts within the allocated portfolio.
  • Accurate matching of entries using the available reconciliation tools.
  • Review and reconciliation of allocated suspense accounts.
  • Initiates process of investigation into unusual occurrence within the allocated suspense accounts.
  • Ensure cleanliness and integrity of all the suspense accounts in the entities under coverage through the review of their proof of accounts
  • Maintain a culture within the Bank that emphasizes and demonstrates to all the importance of reconciliation and its corresponding effect on service excellence
  • Ensure accurate reconciliation of all accounts.
  • Follow up with respective units on end of month suspense accounts proofs
  • Follow up on all unmatched and outstanding items by generating written queries to the applicable unit / SOL
  • Prompt rendition of month end reports on Suspense accounts exceptions
  • Ensure record keeping (proper filing, storage and retrieval) for all accounts within the respective portfolios;
  • Do monthly reconciliation and aging reports and ensure their sign off by the 05th of the subsequent month.
  • Reconcile and monitor contingent accounts on a daily basis.
  • Participation in new product / solution development to ensure that auto / real time reconciliation is delivered.
  • Achievement of strategic goals (Unit / individual goals)
  • Compliance and improvement on turn- around times (TAT) on delivery of reconciliation reports
  • Number of ageing items on Suspense accounts.
  • Number of complaints / mismatched items
  • Improved customer service and satisfaction levels as per customer survey results
  • Reduction of costs and increased throughput
  • Quality of risks mitigation interventions

Cost Management:

  • Develops and implements initiatives to reduce cost and ensures that budgets for the Recons Unit are met.
  • Develop initiatives to improve operational efficiency and achieve reduction in operational costs.

Resource Utilization

  • Identifies and defines operational performance metrics geared towards meeting country objectives by analysing the existing gaps.
  • Work closely with Team members to ensure that best practices and a standard approach is followed.
  • Provides accurate and timeous MIS as per the matrix agreed with respective stakeholders to enable informed decision making
  • Able to weigh things up quickly and take the initiative in line with authority.
  • Monitor changes in the operating environment, quick to act upon potential opportunities.
  • Adhere to appropriate levels and limits of authority that are in place.
  • Compliance to due process in the reconciliation process
  • Escalate contra activities and reports
  • Liaises with unit management in ensuring that regulatory, group policy standards and minimum operating procedures are observed to minimise the Bank’s exposure to risk

 




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant for the Stanbic Bank Analyst, Reconciliation career placement must hold a first Degree in Finance and Accounting
  • One to two years of experience in Accounting and Finance
  • Broad understanding of digital products and processing activities
  • Understanding of the Bank systems, process and procedures.
  • Understanding the basics of team dynamics and participation in developing and maintaining a team culture.
  • Be recognized as an expert in IT Architecture
