Job Summary:  The Sustainability Manager will provide specialist advice and support in business enablement and creation of information to inform decision making.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Accountability:  Role in Society/ Citizenship Management and Execution – 30%

  • Contribute towards the development of the Citizenship strategy ensuring that our Role in Society is in integrated within the respective businesses.
  • Focus on shared value (triple bottom line reporting) by working with the different business to ensure alignment.
  • Supporting society through philanthropy and driving colleague engagement and involvement through COVID safe initiatives
  • Developing social impact value propositions with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Identifying initiatives that have the potential to disrupt social challenges from the portfolio and work towards supporting the delivery of the SDGs as part of doing business.
  • Work with Community Investment Governance forums to plan, implement, and follow up on community investment strategy.
  • Manage relationships with charitable partners (both regional partners and those selected at country level) to ensure successful delivery of projects, including driving of profile and employee participation.
  • Successfully manage the special funds.
  • Take responsibility for agreed country KPIs and MI and report monthly to both regional and country teams working closely with the Head of Communication and Citizenship.
  • Taking responsibility for evaluation and measurement of donations and community sponsorships to ensure that they consistent and aligned to the Bank’s strategy.
  • Working closely with the Head of Communication and Citizenship to ensure that all pillars of the Citizenship strategy are achieved.
  • Identifying, establishing, and managing strategic partnerships that help scale up Absa’s Citizenship Programs.

Accountability:  Support key deliverables in driving Sustainability – 30%

  • Drive the implementation process of Sustainability business measures and KPI’s: The measures are developed in collaboration with all business units.
  • Champion the Business integration on sustainability: By feeding sustainability risks and opportunities into their sector reviews and support the SEE &Reputational risk team with their annual review of ESG policies.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of agreed KPI’s: To support the success of SEE/ESG initiatives.
  • Drive internal education and awareness of sustainability/Role in society priorities to embed the culture of good corporate citizenship.
  • Project management: ensure effective project management and oversight for key sustainability projects.
  • Ensure close collaboration with the business teams in all sustainability initiatives.
  • Identify the Bank’s sustainability material issues and formulate business solutions that will promote environmentally friendly practices, positive social impact, and good governance.
  • Monitor emerging environmental and social risks and trends and develop (in combination with Risk and Finance) a systematic approach for early identification of emerging risks.
  • Facilitate workshops, training and awareness sessions on E&S and the relevant processes within country.
  • Build internal partnerships and expand upon existing relationships to create new alliances for highlighting and managing E&S financial risk and opportunities.
  • Increase awareness of E&S issues through tailored training.
  • Social Impact Reporting

Accountability: Assist in the Development of New Products and Strategic Alliances – 20%

  • Provide support to Head, Communication and Citizenship in the development of products and services on: Inclusive Finance, Environmental sustainability, Education and Skills Development and Promoting a Just society.
  • Establish strategic alliances that can help scale up our Role in Society.

Accountability: Governance and Controls – 20%

  • Ensure adherence to governance and compliance.
  • Manage Citizenship budgets including signing off invoices and quotes within mandate. Escalate out of budgets items to the Head Communication and Citizenship for approval.
  • Identify areas for process improvement and recommend ways to increase functional effectiveness and operational efficiencies.
  • Ensure due diligence is done for all community sponsorships and donations.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal applicant for the Absa Bank Sustainability Manager job should hold a Bachelor’s Degree and Professional Qualifications: Business, Commerce and Management Studies (Required)
