About US:

The Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) is a non-profit research organization. IDRC conducts research in infectious diseases including Malaria, HIV and Tuberculosis. Our studies have led to over 300 publications and have impacted on the management of infectious diseases in Uganda. IDRC currently manages over 41 Grants with an annual budget of $11 million. IDRC was established in May 2008 by Ugandan health scientists from Makerere University College of Health Sciences, University of California, San Francisco and the Uganda Ministry of Health.

 

Job Summary:  The Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) seeks to hire a suitable candidate for the position of Regional Coordinator for the Implementing Malaria Molecular Surveillance (IMMRSE) study. The successful candidate will be based at IDRC office in Mbarara.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate study field activities in consultation with the project coordinator and study team
  • Participate in developing essential study documents, SOPS and training field staff.
  • Planning and preparing for study activities including setting up new malaria reference centres
  • Supervise consenting of participants, sample and data collection as per study SOP.
  • Ensure timely reporting and submission of all study updates and progress reports to the study investigators as required.
  • Provide leadership and technical guidance to other members of the IMMRSE study team
  • Liaise with district local governments, UMSP and other implementing partners and represent
  • the study when appointed
  • Ensure timely procurement requests for field supplies and equipment
  • Keep the project teams updated on all field activities.
  • Approve field expenditures and provide accountability for funds spent

 

Key Result Areas

  • Engagement with MRC and UMSP field staff to ensure timely submission of study data and samples
  • Participation in development of study SOPs and clinic review forms
  • All field data and study samples are complete as per study protocol and SOPs
  • Study and organizational meetings actively participated in





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in medicine, medical lab technology or related field
  • A Masters of Public Health or in a lab sciences related field (immunology, microbiology etc) is an added advantage
  • Experience working in malaria research, preferably in s supervisory position
  • Good knowledge of Uganda’s malaria surveillance system
  • Ability to represent IMMRSE in meetings with key stakeholders
  • Proficient in Microsoft office applications
  • Able to work under stringent deadlines and to work independently
  • Possess a GCP and HSP certificate
