POSITION: Psychosocial Support Assistant (1 vacancy)

Duty Station: Yumbe

Reports to: Project Manager

 

Job Summary:  The Psychosocial Support (PSS) Assistant will support the FCA team in identifying PSS and protection issues in the target communities, supporting with referral of the identified cases through the existing relevant mechanisms within the settlement for more specialized attention. He / She will be responsible for the social, psychological and emotional support of the project beneficiaries in Yumbe and also ensure integration of PSS and protection components into the mobile learning sessions. Providing basic psychosocial counselling and guidance to the target beneficiaries (i.e. children, youth, and the vulnerable) and undertakes regular follow ups. Above all implement project activities in accordance with the project description and budget provisions.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Cycle Management

  • Participate in planning, proper implementation, coordination of psychosocial and protection activities of the project.
  • Plan jointly with other project staff for the realization of project objectives and goals with vivid guidance from the PSS officer in the same office.
  • Map existing services to address PSS in the various affected areas, including identifying community capacities and structures for potential partnership.
  • In close collaboration with the protection and programme teams, establish multi-sectoral PSS prevention and response mechanisms as a life-saving priority; ensure that they are mainstreamed in mid- to long-term protection planning, and aligned with the FCA CRM systems and UNHCR FRRM system.
  • Follow data collection tools and guidelines, contribute to data entry, and participate in monitoring and evaluation of project activities
  • Provide feedback to the PSS/ protection team to ensure high quality implementation of program activities
  • Ensure timely referral and follow up of cases in need of further support, and their proper documentation.
  • Facilitate activities that raise awareness about psychosocial wellness and resiliency.
  • Prepare case stories and reports to the project manager, and contribute to the monthly routine reports submitted to the PSS officer
  • Ensure FCA actively participates in PSS sub-cluster/Protection Cluster for Refugees Settlement




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate for the Finn Church AID (FCA) Psychosocial Support Assistant job placement should hold a Bachelor degree of psychology, Guidance and counselling, Education
  • Three years of experience in PSS project implementation with children in education setting. Demonstrated understanding of how PSS and CP relate with education
  • Demonstrated creative and innovative approach to delivering PSS especially in refugee communities working with parents and local leaders and teachers.
  • Good understanding of the operation of PSS and CP referral mechanisms in the refugee context Strong community engagement skills and approaches in addition to training facilitation skills for lowly educated community members.
  • Good planning, implementation management and reporting skills Good team work spirits, and accommodative to external views
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity.
