HOLD Uganda is a community-based organization that supports and empowers rural, poor and vulnerable communities to become self-reliant and sustaining, so that they can fully participate in their own social and economic development initiatives. HOLD Uganda implements community health, socio-economic empowerment, and advocacy programs at the community level, targeting adolescent girls, young women, youth, orphans, vulnerable children, and elderly women.

 

Job Summary:  The Community Health Specialist (CHP) will collaborate with the community health teams at Holistic Initiative to Community Development (HOLD) Uganda. These teams support Community Health Workers (CHWs), clinical interventions through community mobilization and education, and a program that supports social and economic rights for vulnerable individuals and households. The Community Health Specialist will directly assist the managers of these programs to design health program implementation strategies, administer quality improvement projects, help with district health information software (DHIS) strengthening, and support the development of health promotion and education materials and strategies.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Work closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) team to support the development and implementation of quality improvement projects across the community health department
  • Collaborate with the community health managers and M&E team in the maintenance and improvement of data management systems and monitoring of community health programs
  • Assist the community health managers in program evaluation as well as research

Systems Improvement

  • Support routine monitoring and review of the Medic Mobile application dashboard and other program dashboards; identify issues, develop and oversee implementation of corresponding program improvement plans
  • Support management of GLPI, Medic Mobile’s issue reporting and management system, which includes logging of issues, monitoring and tracking progress, and follow up to full resolution of logged issues
  • Work closely with the Medic Mobile team to facilitate implementation and configuration of new app features

Project Management and Communication

  • Support district level health structures through capacity building and MOH policies rollout
  • Proactively support management of HOLD Uganda Health programs
  • Create, manage, and track all project documentation (MOU, work plans, budgets, etc.)
  • Support development of various health communication materials such as proposals, M&E frameworks, reports, lessons learned, presentations, impact stories, and other write-ups for various audiences and purposes
  • Help with the planning and execution of key activities in the community health department
  • Support resource mobilization and funding opportunities for various efforts within the health department
  • Other duties as necessary





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Prior experience in public health, community development, or a related field*
  • Demonstrated experience improving program performance, especially through quality improvement methodology*
  • Demonstrated quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills, especially used for research or program evaluation*
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to ensure internal and external collaborators achieve a time-bound goal or project*
  • Strong writing skills with experience producing reports, abstracts, best practices, impact stories, or other documents for technical and non-technical audiences*
  • Previous experience in resource-limited settings*
  • Academic training in or professional experience with community-based initiatives, especially in a rural setting
  • Experience with partnership/relationship management, acting as the main point of contact for donors, clients/beneficiaries, or other key stakeholders
  • Experience with MOH reporting systems
  • Experience with mobile data tracking platforms, especially mHealth platforms such as Medic Mobile, CommCare, or DHIS2
  • Self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Innovative
  • Team player with the ability to impart skills/mentor others
  • Ability to be flexible, think creatively, and manage competing priorities
  • Demonstrated maturity and good judgment
  • Strong organizational skills and detail orientation

Fellowship Benefits and Logistics
