Job Summary:   StrongMinds Uganda is looking for dynamic, suitably qualified and experienced nationals to fill the vacant positions of IT Officer based in Kampala with 30% travel to SMU field offices. Under the Leadership of the IT/Operations Manager, the IT Officer will offer Information Technology support & technical expertise in the areas of Hardware, Software as well as systems support at StrongMinds Uganda.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

IT Systems Management

  • Ensure implementation of ICT strategies and new technologies.
  • Responsible for compliance with and maintenance of StrongMinds ICT standards, policies and procedures to ensure adherence to ICT standards, policies and procedures
  • Actively participate in working groups for information and knowledge sharing
  • Collaborate with Procurement team in ensuring timely and value for money IT related purchases.

IT Support

  • Provide support and technical assistance to resolve ICT issues.
  • Provide End-User support for all Applications.
  • Ensure ICT services are accessible and equipped with current hardware and software either through research or engagement with service providers
  • Work with relevant teams (Administration, Finance, etc) in preparing IT assets disposal when appropriate and Ensure hardware is stripped and data secured before disposal
  • Ensure ICT inventory for the organization is up to date and consolidated
  • Periodically assess the hardware and software infrastructure needs of StrongMinds Uganda and submit reports to the IT and Operations Manager to ensure effective acquisition of appropriate hardware and software as per SMU Information Technology Policy.
  • Participate in the implementation and maintenance of a disaster recovery plan for SMU hardware and software infrastructure.

IT Network Operations

  • Ensure optimal functioning of Internet links in all offices and residences as applicable
  • Network Infrastructure and technology implementation, network performance management and participate in improvement planning
  • Managing access controls for all network related services and resources.

Capacity building for Non IT staff, coaching/mentorship and development

  • Identify user training needs through assessments and tailor appropriate responses
  • Training material development for the country offices to support roll out of technologies.
  • Lead the induction process for new staff
  • Provide capacity building for Non Finance staff
  • Awareness raising activities for operations and program technical staff regarding IT priorities and quality standards
  • Commitment/adhere to the child protection/ safeguarding policy, code of conduct and other SM policies.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field.
  • Five years of experience in ICT Administration and support
  • Familiar with all day-to-day aspects of managing the IT needs of an organization, with specific areas of the role involving: familiarity with Windows and MS Office Products, including Office 365, LAN/WAN infrastructures (routers, modems, switches, etc.); trouble shooting and administering a Microsoft Windows based network (LAN) and servers; good working knowledge of Windows server and domain system configuration, antivirus software for workstations and servers etc.
  • Familiarity with Zoom, DropBox, and G-Suite
  • Migration to Office 365 including MicroSoft Teams and One Drive a plus
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability & analytical mind.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Understanding of data management and engineering techniques
  • Familiarity with Scala, Java or C++ is an asset
  • Familiarity with business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau)
  • Strong math skills (e.g., statistics, algebra)
  • Demonstrated commitment to SMU Safeguarding/CP Policy & Code of Conduct
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
