About US:

The Department of Operational Support (DOS) provides operational support to all UN Secretariat entities, including advisory, operational and transactional support services and, where needed, exercises delegated authority on behalf of clients. DOS supports the entire UN Secretariat, consisting of almost 100 entities located around the globe.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

Within delegated authority, the Transport Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Assists in monitoring and obtaining data on specified activities related to the movement of cargo and passengers in the supported missions with a view to minimizing costs through maximizing asset utilization.
  • Assists in the coordination of client missions’ requirement on matters pertaining to movements.
  • Assists in the carrying out of need analysis of the regional movements from data available and recommend transportation solutions including the consolidation of these needs and maximizing the utilization of available regional capacity.
  • Assists in the planning, reviewing, analysis and coordinating requests.
  • Processes assigned Task Order Requests for movement.
  • Contributes to the development of the unit SOPs and implement them as required.
  • Implements performance standards and improves the overall service quality/operational standards.
  • Contributes to the establishment of the unit performance standards and improves the overall service quality/operational standards.
  • Maintains good contacts with key players in the regional transportation industry, including other UN agencies, NGOs, and government agencies for movement request related issues requiring planning and analysis.
  • Receives, manages, and archives all records of movements related documentation including filing electronically and in hard copy.
  • Assists in preparation of regular reports
  • Carry out any other duties as assigned.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant for the United Nations Department Of Operational Support (DOS) Transport Assistant should hold a High school diploma or equivalent. Required.
  • At least five (05) years of progressively responsible experience in logistics support, transport operations Management, procurement, administration or related area is required.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint is desirable.
  • Experience working with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (such as SAP, Oracle) or similar system is desirable.
  • Experience in sourcing, cleaning and preparing data, selection and developing visualization/metrics in transportation, procurement, and/or supply chain management that enable easy communication/interpretation by the users is desirable.
  • Languages: fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
