MoTIV is East Africa’s
largest makerspace, we operate as a community led factory and training
facility. We want to help the cottage industries of Uganda grow by supporting
them as an incubation service offering training and product/ process
development.

 

Job Summary:  We’re looking for a Machine Shop Manager to
join the MoTIV team.

 

Key Duties and
Responsibilities:

Management and
Community Engagement

·
The
Manager is expected to have exceptional leadership and people skills, and to
coordinate all machine shop activities in production, training and maker space.

·
Manage
and track the Factory’s assets and their status: both in functionality and
availability

·
Coordinate
with production managers to ensure the maintenance of health and safety on the
production floor.

·
Assist
the Factory Lead in tracking all products, materials and equipment going
through the machine shop (raw materials coming in and finished products/ waste
going out).

·
Coordinate
and support the implementation of reporting tools for the Machine shop
activities – production planning, weekly activity reports and production status
reports, among others.

 


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·
Proven
experience in a factory management role and it would be a bonus to have
knowledge of mechanical, metal or wood fields (minimum 2 years’ experience).

·
The
manager must be computer literate and confident in the use of basic Microsoft
suite.

·
Knowledge
and experience of factory processes and LEAN management to achieve optimal
efficiency.

·
Excellent
leadership and management skills; ability to coach and develop teammates for
continued professional development

·
Exceptional
cross-cultural communication and presentation skills – both written and spoken

·
Demonstrated
experience of working in a creative space and understanding the needs of the
Machine shop makers.

·
Experience
working with third parties and building fruitful partnerships ranging from
individual basis to larger corporate entities.

·
Ability
to work in a fast paced environment with flexibility to adapt to the changing
needs of the business and an entrepreneurial attitude.

·
Passion
for working in a company with a social mission of building local capacity

·
Fluency
in English, both spoken and written is crucial.

·
Evidence
of the following characteristics: humble, inspiring, self-aware, resilient,
adaptable, proactive, persistent, resourceful, able to work under pressure and
respect deadlines, strong at building relationships and resolving problems,
poised, active listener, fun to work with, and full of integrity.
