investing in human potential, expanding opportunity and improving the overall
quality of life, especially for women and girls. It works primarily in six
areas:  Agriculture and Food Security;
Economic Inclusion; Education; Early Childhood Development; Health and
Nutrition; and Civil Society.

 

About the Project:

The AKDN East Africa
COVID-19 Response Project will provide rapid response funds to various local
Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to enable them to reach their most
vulnerable constituents with support based on their emerging needs arising from
the COVID-19 pandemic. The program will also provide a platform, comprising
Human Centered Design workshops, flexible grants, and mentorship, to support
young entrepreneurs to design innovative business solutions that will meet the
medium to short term needs of the community emerging from the pandemic. The 2.5
year project will be implemented in Central and West Nile (Arua) regions of
Uganda.

 

Job Summary:  The Innovations Coordinator – COVID-19
Response Program will mainly lead Pillar 3 under the AKDN East Africa COVID-19
Response Program –that aims to provide a platform to young innovators to design
innovative business solutions that will meet the medium to short term needs of
the community emerging from the pandemic. The competitive platform will
comprise Human Centred Design workshops, mentorship, and flexible funds to
support the roll out of the selected innovations.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Develop
workplans and implement activities to roll out a competitive platform to attract
young innovators to design solutions to challenges in Health, Education and
Entrepreneurship for young people.

·       
Lead a
competitive and transparent process to select young innovators and provide
funding to the most promising innovations

·       
Work
closely with the innovators to ensure proper utilization of the funds for the
innovations as planned and track progress

·       
Engage a
team of experienced mentors to provide support to the young innovators

·       
Implement
a targeted marketing and publicity campaign to attract innovators, showcase the
innovations and attract other stakeholders and players in the space to
participate

·       
Plan and
deliver innovative events including HCD workshops, awards events etc.

·       
Build
relationships with the successful innovators and support the development of
their innovations on a regular basis, nurturing a community of practice for the
young innovators including other strategic stakeholders in the Entrepreneurship
space

 


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The
applicant must hold a Degree in Business, Entrepreneurship or other relevant
field

·       
Experience
in implementing Entrepreneurship or Youth Innovation programs is required

·       
Good
knowledge and understanding of the youth entrepreneurship space, opportunities
and players is required

·       
Experience
with the Human Centered Design methodology will be an added advantage

·       
Dynamic,
entrepreneurial and innovation/solutions driven mind-set

·       
Strong
inter-personal skills and working collaboratively with internal teams and
project and non-project partners

·       
Strong
communication skills, written and oral, and fluency in English

·       
Experience
with on-line or remote events will be an added advantage

·       
Good ICT
skills
