About US:

The Rakai Health
Sciences Program (RHSP) was established in 1987 as a collaboration between
researchers at Makerere, Columbia and John Hopkins Universities, the Division
of Intramural Research at the National Institutes of Allergy & Infectious
diseases and the International Centre for Excellence Research (ICER). This was
as a result of the first identification of clinical AIDS in Rakai district
Uganda in 1982 by Drs. Sewankambo and Serwadda. The initiation of the Program,
then known as Rakai Project led to a series of clinical studies characterizing
the disease and its epidemiology; and also brought the partnership with other
colleagues including Professor Maria Wawer and Prof Ronald Gray.

 

Job Summary:  The DREAMS Liaisons Officer’s main role
responsibility will be to engage AGYWs in their district, identify HIV
pre-disposing factors unique to AGYWs in the district and bring these to the
attention of the district DREAMS IP technical teams, highlighting and provide
guidance on possible implementation modalities as may be proposed by the AGYWs.
The DREAMS Liaisons Officer will further participate in advocacy engagements,
working with communities to protect AGYWs and further promote DREAMS
programming to other implementors and local government authorities for possible
action.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Promote
DREAMS programming as a prototype positive youth development program at the
district and any other forum deemed necessary.

·       
To
generate public attention about the DREAMS program and factors that affect
adolescent girls in the community predisposing them to HIV infection and many
other risks including gender-based violence.

·       
Conduct
uplifting dialogue meetings and workshops within the communities, conduct
debates and speak in public events and media campaigns to increase buy in to
the DREAMS program and support communities to protect AGYW.

·       
Participate
in service quality assessment of DREAMS services provided to AGYW.

·       
Participate
in the district DREAMS Coordination meetings to represent the voices of AGYW
and young people.

·       
Participate
in technical meetings with the IP to support decision making on priorities of
the DREAMS program.

·       
Work
with the community to identify and link at risk peers to DREAMS services
available at the facilities and community including safe spaces.

·       
Work
with DREAMS program recipients to provide testimonies of positive living and
the impact of DREAMS program.

·       
To be
the public face in existing structures such as girls’ clubs, safe spaces in the
community as well as in educational and communication materials.

·       
Participate
in monitoring and supervision of the DREAMS program implementation for the
different technical areas in the district.

·       
Any
other duties assigned in line with your role.

 


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The
applicant must hold an A’ level certificate

·       
Possess
good reading and writing skills. A professional qualification such as a
certificate or a diploma is an added advantage.

·       
Must be
a beneficiary and or engaged in the DREAMS program for at least one year

·       
Experience
in activism, community mobilization & youth empowerment

·       
Experience
in working with or counselling adolescents is an added advantage.

·       
Applicant
must be available to work full time.

·       
Applicant
must be able to read & write in both English and local language of the
DREAMS district.

·       
Must be
aged 18-24 years.

·       
Ability
to ride a motorcycle is an added advantage.

·       
Applicant
Must be a resident of the above district or nearby areas.

·       
Attach a
photocopy of an original National ID.

·       
An LC I
