Job Summary:  The Project Officer- (East Africa WEE Evidence
Advocacy and Communications Hub) will plan, implement, account for and report
on the East Africa WEE Evidence Advocacy and Communications Hub Project under
the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Create linkage, synergize with other
partners and women collectives elevate priority evidence-based issues between
grassroot, district and national priority on women economic empowerment.
Increase advocacy and communication coordination across existing women
empowerment collectives through lobby and advocacy at national, regional, and
connect with the international levels on the women economic empowerment agenda.

 

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

Project initiation
and set-up

·       
Conduct
project inception meetings with project participants, stakeholders and
associates including AAU partners towards buy in and building
synergies/collaboration with different actors at different levels.

·       
Conduct
orientation meetings at grassroot level with project collectives, partners,
stakeholders, and participants including ensuring identification of viable
business enterprises and their implementation modalities.

·       
Advocate
for gender responsive services and women economic rights towards economic
inclusion programs and policies in development of an advocacy and
communications plan towards building and strengthening women collectives with
partners.

·       
Build
capacity of women’s collectives through trainings on issues such as group
dynamics, internal governance, record keeping, financial tracking, and other
identified needs, in collaboration with CARE, to support their internal management
and operations.

·       
Project
delivery and accountability:

Plan, implement,
and monitor the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation project activities,
prepare, and submit periodic reports that address approved project deliverables
in line with Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Guidelines.

·       
Implement
project activities as laid down in the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
Project MOU, Monitoring & Evaluation Framework, documents, and budgets.

·       
Strengthen
the capacity of grassroots women’s organizations to understand the current
policy framework surrounding Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) and prepare them
as needed to engage in the communications and advocacy strategy.

·       
Create
opportunities for WEE groups, women collectives, and partners to engage in
community, national and international spaces related to the advancement of
Women Economic Empowerment by amplify their voices in various government
engagements.

·       
Conduct
periodic reviews, monitoring support visits, meetings and produce regular
reports on activity implementation in accordance to reporting schedules and
templates.

·       
Produce
and submit high quality and timely activity/periodic plans, reports, and share
with the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer and the Manager Women Access to
Social Justice for quality assurance before submission to AA USA ahead of tight
donor deadlines with the Gates Foundation.

Support project
capacity building initiatives with partners and actors to-wards project
implement in line with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and AAIU
principles, values, and guidelines.

Identification
of partners and stakeholder capacity gaps and support the implementation of the
advocacy strategy.

·       
Identify
women and partner issues at grassroot from the community and district to inform
national and international policy influencing and campaigns.

·       
Conduct
Support visits to partners, coalitions, and project beneficiaries, review
reports, in line with the project documents.

Plan, Implement,
evaluate and report on youth activities within the project area in accordance
to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Guidelines and AAIU policies.

·       
Lead in
the grassroot, district and national processes of participatory meetings on
women economic empowerment.

·       
Take
lead role in organizing project consultative validation and dissemination
meetings in line with AAU mission and vision.

·       
Roll out
AAIU proven Women Economic Model and approaches towards increased economic
empowerment.

·       
Take
lead in providing technical support to the women formation and coalitions to
benefit from existing government and private sector programmes in line with the
project aspirations.

·       
Play
lead role in supporting participation of project beneficiaries and actors in
meetings at district, regional and inter-national levels.

·       
Work
with the M&E Officer and the Manager Women Access to Social Justice to
carryout reflection meetings with stakeholders and networks that are relevant
to the project.

·       
Ensure
linkages of project participant to learning and sharing spaces at local,
regional, national and international levels.

·       
Conduct
periodic technical support sessions and support the project to develop tailor
made manuals on selected themes necessary for achieving its objectives.

Promote AAU image
and provide technical support to stakeholders in line with the Organizational
mission vision and values.          

·       
Participate
in the planning processes to integrate project plans and activities at all
levels.

·       
Participate
and represent AAIU in all project meetings with stakeholders and the Bill &
Melinda Gates Foundation visibility and branding at different levels.

·       
Share
project plans and budgets, reports with relevant stakeholders including study
findings and analyses.
