About PEAS:

PEAS is an
international education not-for-profit with the mission to ‘expand access to
sustainably delivered, quality secondary education across Africa’.

Since 2008, PEAS has
built and operated high quality low-cost not-for-profit secondary schools in
close partnership with government in communities where there is urgent unmet
demand for secondary education. We currently run 28 secondary schools in Uganda
and 4 in Zambia serving over 15,000 students. PEAS operations and work are
founded on four strategic pillars i.e., Access, Quality, Sustainability and
System Strengthening.

 

Job Summary:  To streamline and rationalize all network and
PEAS Uganda school operations to achieve full capacity return on investment
that enhances PEAS aspirations for a successful, exemplar and sustainable actor
in the education sector in Uganda. This is a strategically placed role that
will lead on actualising greater impact of operations of the school network
working with senior management and particularly the Head of Operations to
define optimal operational models for the schools to achieve the highest impact
for Access, Quality and Sustainability in our schools.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Working
with project sponsors and senior management to define the overall school
operating model.

·       
Lead the
implementation of school level transformation projects and changes targeting
costs reduction and income generation.

·       
Carry
out research, data collection and analysis to define the optimal level of
operations, income, and costs necessary for each school to operate sustainably.

·       
Setting,
projecting, and forecasting the optimal school fees levels and periodic
increases needed for each individual school in the network to achieve financial
sustainability.

·       
Oversee
the schools’ financial operations including budgeting, yearend financial
statement closure, financial reporting, general ledger accuracy and
coordination of year end statutory audits.

·       
Identify
and drive improvements in schools’ financial processes and internal controls
systems.

·       
Review
overall sustainability finance modelling and refining data to define cost
reductions and income increase targets to deliver the sustainability aspiration
of zero subsidy/top up by 2025

·       
Think
through centralization and decentralization of processes aligned to greater
empowerment and efficiency in operations.

·       
Mentor
and develop the capacity of the Roving Finance Officers and school finance
staff.

 


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Essential

·       
Bachelors
in Business Administration, Commerce (Accounting) or other relevant
qualifications

·       
Five years
of experience in a financial management role at a senior or middle level
management role 

·       
Experience
leading business planning and analysis in a large school network or in an
entity with similar operations.

·       
Experience
developing strategies and understands approaches to managing an effective
change process

·       
Numerate
and demonstrable experience using Microsoft and google tools especially Excel,
PowerPoint

·       
Ambitious
and desires a stretch role that provides an opportunity to get out of their
ordinary finance into modelling, analytics, forecasting and developing
strategies

·       
Working
well with senior management teams and able to influence, persuade and
articulate well with evidence approaches that deliver specific goals

·       
Basic
experience in developing policy framework and

·       
Tax planning
and management experience

Desired

·       
A
visionary and values aligned individual is excited about transformation and
able to influence others

·       
Qualified
Accountant with either CPA or ACCA. One can also apply if they have completed
level 2.

A good
collaborator, team player and listener

·       
Self-driven
and can work largely with limited or no supervision setting own goal plans to
achieve specific assignment
