About Project:

Through the AIMS
project, HI, in collaboration with other education actors, is aiming at increasing
access to education, empower teachers and create inclusive education
environments. HI will also provide rehabilitation and psycho social support to
CwD and work with the communities to change negative attitudes. HI with support
from Education Cannot Wait (ECW) is implementing Access to Inclusive and
Meaningful Services (AIMS) in Education project with an overall objective of
ensuring that children, adolescents and youth from refugee and host communities
have access to sustained quality learning opportunities in collaboration with
other education actors. The overall objective is in line with the Education
Emergency Response Plan of the Ugandan Ministry of Education (MoE). HI provides
technical support to education actors and implements activities that support
inclusion. The strategy is based on the twin-track approach and seeks to
strengthen the capacity of the education system to include CwD and to provide
individual support to maximize the functional potential of CwD. Key partners in
AIMS project are MoE, Save the Children International (SCI), Plan, Norwegian
Refugee Council (NRC), and Fin Church Aid (FCA) operating in the in Arua
District settlements of Rhino Camp, Omugo and Imvepi, in Yumbe District
settlement of Bidibidi and in Moyo District Settlement of Palorinya. AIMS is a
three year project i.e. Jan 2019 to Dec 2021.

 

Therefore, HI is
currently seeking to recruit a qualified personnel to fill these Positions.
He/she will have to create and maintain an environment which prevents sexual
exploitation and abuse and promotes the implementation of the code of conduct.

 

Job Summary:  Under the supervision of the HI AIMS Project
Manager and in coordination with the Consortium Management Unit and the
technical support of the HI Technical Unit, the Physiotherapist will be
responsible for overall daily implementation of rehabilitation activities at
the fixed points in the refugee settlement and/or as part of the mobile team

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

Physical and
functional assessment of beneficiaries from the refugee and host population in
Imvepi, Omugo and Rhino Settlement

Assess
beneficiary needs using the Comprehensive Assessment Form

·       
According
to the outcomes of the assessment of the beneficiaries’ needs elaborate an
appropriate intervention and a plan of treatment including provision of
assistive devices and referral to other services within HI and other
stakeholders

Provision of
appropriate rehabilitation interventions

·       
Design
appropriate physical rehabilitation intervention according to the priorities of
needs identified during assessment.

·       
Explain
to both beneficiary and caregiver or family the importance of rehabilitation
and the purpose of the treatment to be provided (being provided)

·       
Provide
rehabilitation care according to Uganda (and international) physiotherapy
standards and HI rehabilitation guidelines.

·       
Follow
the evolution of care and improvement of beneficiaries through the use of
different rehabilitation outcome tools (FIM scoring, CP assessment tool etc.)
and report it by updating beneficiary files as needed.

·       
Ensure
the security of the beneficiary during the rehabilitation sessions and take
into account precautions related to diverse illness, problems and medical
treatments. Seek medical advice if needed.

·       
Provide
advice and train the beneficiary and the caregivers on the basic exercises that
the beneficiary can do on his/her own or with support from caregivers to
improve general body condition and prevent secondary complications

Home follow-up and
discharge of beneficiaries

·       
Follow
up on home instructions provided to beneficiaries and caregiver during initial
assessment and treatment

·       
Monitor
progress of beneficiaries in doing rehabilitation exercises and use of
assistive devices

·       
Provide
advise on how to improve activities of daily living (ADL) following the FIM
scoring standards

·       
Review
and recommend discharge of beneficiaries after resolution of problems and
achievement of rehabilitation objectives. (Note: discharge is coordinated with
the PSS.

Organization of
daily, weekly and monthly activities according to the organization calendar of
work

·       
Prepares
weekly movement plan and other request to support services as needed.

·       
Updates
rehabilitation follow up form after each session with a beneficiary. All files
are treated with outmost confidentiality and are only discussed within the team
for clarification as needed.

·       
Contribute
to the weekly report according to department and donor requirement on
rehabilitation services: new beneficiaries, active cases, donation
certificates, discharge etc.

·       
Participates
in monthly Case Review led by Rehab and MHPSS TA and or Senior PT and
Psychologist/PSS.

·       
Any
other reports to be made upon line manager request (case studies, monitoring
reports…)

Respect of HI
identity, rules and policies

·       
In
coordination with the Human Resources Manager and Program Manager:

·       
Know,
understand, apply and respect HI code of conduct and ethics, HI mandate and
values, HI rules and operating procedure, HI policies (child protection policy,
policy and mechanism for the prevention of and fight against bribery, the
protection of beneficiaries from sexual exploitation and abuse policy) and make
sure they are known, understood, applied and respected by its team

Know,
understand, apply and respect HI security rules and make sure they are known,
understood and applied by her/his team

·       
Regular
refresher trainings are organized

 

The employee is
expected to perform any other tasks in addition to the aforementioned upon
request

 


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The applicant
must hold a Degree in Physiotherapy.

·       
One year
of experience as a physiotherapist

·       
Knowledge
on disability and/or working experience with persons with disabilities;

·       
Medical
knowledge or experience in health/medical and/or rehabilitation field

·       
Abilities
to work within a team and collaborate

·       
Capacities
to analyse and makes a decision

·       
Abilities
to properly communicate with beneficiaries, families/caretakers and medical
staff

·       
Motivated,
dynamic; able and willing to take initiatives

·       
Time and
work management abilities as well as autonomy

·       
Willing
to learn and develop professionally

·       
Open and
interested in disability issues

·       
Fluent
in written and spoken English
