About Tugende:

Tugende is a
for-profit social enterprise providing asset and SME finance, leasing,
insurance, and financial literacy to new customers and consumer finance to
qualified existing customers.

 

It was formally established
in 2012 in Uganda and is a technology-enabled asset financier of
income-generating assets for proven entrepreneurs, using a lease-to-own product
to offer an affordable path to ownership of these assets. Tugende empowers
customers unable to access formal credit, and has financed over 30,000
customers.

 

About this Role: Tugende’s mission is: ‘Helping people help themselves’ The Tugende Team
Leader is a thorough professional with a practical mind and attention to
detail. The ideal candidate will be required to work autonomously and
responsibly build and maintain strong relationships between either the credit
OR collections team and the clients. The role will be based in Kenya, with
occasional travels to Uganda.

 

Key Duties and
Responsibilities:

Credit Function: You will serve to build a strong credit
team, conduct credit field operations and promote good customer service at the
branch.

Core Credit
Management

·        
Manage
and build capacity for the stable weekly vetting of our pipeline volumes of
applicants

·        
Ensure
that our vetting processes maximise the quality of portfolio inflow

·        
Lead,
coach and develop a high-performing credit team

·        
Monitor
and enforce credit best practices and other operating procedures

·        
Identify
and specify improved tools to increase vetting efficiency

·        
Foster a
culture around the importance of data quality.

·        
Foster a
culture of customer experience excellence

·        
Produce
high quality reports, analyze data, identify trends, and provide
recommendations to your supervisor.

·        
Collections
Function: You will serve to build a strong collection team and share best
practices on how to maintain healthy and positive relationships with clients.

Specific duties and
responsibilities

·        
Manage
weekly collection team payments

·        
Maintain
and increase collection rates at branches

·        
Monitor
and enforce collection best practices and other operating procedures

·        
Lead,
coach and develop a high-performing collection team

·        
Monitor
and supervise a stable consistent process of impounding, terminations and
recovery of problematic leases

·        
Proactively
identify areas of improvement and provide preventative measures

·        
Foster a
culture of customer experience excellence

·        
Produce
high quality reports, analyze data, identify trends, and provide recommendations
to your supervisor.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Preferred
Qualification:

·        
A
minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field from a recognized
institution of learning.

·        
Should
have a valid driver’s license.

Preferred
experience:

·        
Two
years’ field based experience working with an institution or organization such
as a microfinance or business credit related business

·        
Motorcycle
riding ability is an added advantage and gaining this proficiency will be a
requirement once on the job

Preferred skills,
knowledge & abilities

·        
Highly
self-motivated and able to demonstrate a drive for results with a professional
approach from a team

·        
Excellent
communication, presentation skills and professionally presentable

·        
Exhibit
a passion for customers, and provide excellent customer service and empathy for
our customers

Ability
to work under pressure in a fast paced environment and willing to work in the
different regions of Kenya.

Ability
and willingness to learn to ride a motorcycle to conduct fieldwork

Computer
literate with ability to comfortably use MS Office and G-suits. Have at least

to work under minimum supervision with resilience and a ‘can do’ attitude

·        
Fluent
in Kiswahili and at least 2 key local languages of Kenya
