Job Summary:  This is a special needs education (SNE)
teaching and mentoring position of learners with SNE at Pakele Girl’s primary
school. This position is for teachers who should be qualified as Grade III
teachers with certificate in sign Language or a Diploma Holder with a Diploma
in Primary Education majoring in Special Needs Education (SNE, Sign Language
Option) to be employed for a period of 12 Months to teach at Pakele Girls P/S,
with a probation period of three months.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

Teaching and
Learning

·       
Prepare
inclusive schemes of work and lesson plans for teaching and appropriate
interpretation of the primary school curriculum

·       
Prepare
inclusive teaching and learning materials in line with the curriculum content.
Planning, preparing and researching lessons

·       
Prepare
and administer continuous assessment of learners and; submit report on
performance of learners.

·       
Prepare,
administer, mark examinations and give feedback

·       
Conduct
peer to peer support programs for improved social skills for learners with
special needs.

·       
Guide
and counsel all children in his/her class

·       
Provide
career guidance to children with special needs in the class.

·       
Identify
and assess   learners with special needs
in his/her class

·       
Monitor
learners’ progress in class

·       
Conduct
school based capacity building for teachers in sign language

·       
Teach
and mentor children with hearing and speech impairments

·       
Translate
and interpret the spoken word into sign language that the deaf can understand.

·       
Implement
IEP or Individualized Education Plan for each learner.

·       
Modify
and develop the typical primary school lesson to suit the learning ability of
the deaf with the proper teaching technologies to include sign language into
the curriculum.

·       
Conduct
courses in sign language while taking advantage of the normal visual acuity of
the students by creating lessons making use of visual and tactile sensory
teaching aids.

·       
Make
research on new trends in teaching children with hearing difficulties

·       
Preparing
and adapting teaching materials and make good use of assistive devices

·       
Follow
contacts hours with the learners (teaching time table with the learners) on an
individual, class or small group work

·       
Attending
meetings and reviews

·       
Liaise
with parents, external agencies and a range of other professionals in the field
of Special education

·       
Meet
regularly with parents and guardians to appraise their children’s progress and
reassess learning priorities for their children.

·       
Meet
regularly with parents and guardians to appraise their children’s progress and

Coordinate
and work with other staff.

·       
Collaborate
with Inspector of Schools in charge of SNE Adjumani District Local Government
in helping students with hearing impairment to use hearing aid when applicable

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The applicants
for the Finn Church Aid (FCA) Sign Language Teacher jobs must be trained as a
Grade III teaching certificate and registered by MOES

·       
Diploma
in Education (SNE option) from a recognised institution is prefered.

·       
Trainings
in Sign language will be an added advantage

·       
Must
have excellent interpersonal and people management skills

·       
The
ideal candidate must poses good communication and interpersonal skills

·       
Must
have genuine interest in educating children with disabilities

·       
Must
have high level of teaching skills and patience

·       
The
candidate must possess high level of honesty and integrity

·       
Good
time management is a MUST

·       
The
ideal candidate must be flexible and willing to work extra hours as required.

·       
The
ideal candidate must a resident of Adjumani or willing to reside in Adjumani
