CURE Children’s
Hospital of Uganda, a Private-Not-For-Profit (PNFP) Christian hospital
specialized in pediatric neurosurgery and integrated spiritual ministry.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

Provide Primary
Care Services

·       
Develop
proficiency in Medical and surgical management of patients with the most common
neurosurgical diagnoses seen at the hospital.

·       
Assess
the urgency and severity of presenting problems through history taking,
examination and investigation.

·       
Examines,
investigates and treats employees and their qualified dependents at the out
patients’ clinic.

·       
Recommending
and where appropriate, undertaking relevant treatment options, including
patient referral to outside specialists.

·       
Participates
in the clinical activities of the ward which include ward rounds coverage at
night and weekends as scheduled.

·       
Carries
out prospective employee medical examinations.

·       
Travels
to remote clinic sites to perform assessments and follow-up on patients as
scheduled.

Improve patient
health

·       
Ongoing
health and development assessment and advice to patients.

·       
Health
education, counselling and information provision about how to improve health
and prevent disease and interventions or treatments that treat risk factors.

·       
Provides
counseling to patients and their families.

Accuracy of
information
 

·       
All
information you enter into the system is accurate, appropriate and in
accordance with agreed protocols.

·       
Clinical
notes for all patient consultations must be accurately recorded in the clinical
patient notes within 24 hours of seeing the patient.

·       
Accurate
and timely operation reporting.

Communication      

·       
Professional
liaison with other health professionals is maintained.

·       
All
staff are informed, as appropriate, about anything that they should be aware of
regarding a patient, or regarding the internal workings of the practice.

·       
Staff
and team meetings are attended as requested.

·       
All
staff problems or issues are referred to the Clinical services manager or
senior medical officer in the first instance.

·       
Communicates
effectively with all other facility staff and disciplines to ensure successful
patient care.

Continuing Medical
Education

·       
Ongoing
CME is maintained at least at the level required to maintain ongoing
accreditation through the maintenance of professional standards of the UMDPC.

·       
Participate
in practice accreditation or other quality improvement systems.

·       
Participation
in clinical audit as required by UMDPC or other clinical or administrative
indication.

·       
Participates
in CME activities as may be organized in and outside the hospital.

Privacy Act 

·       
Total
confidentiality and privacy of patients is maintained.

Health & Safety      

·       
Comply
with established health and safety policies with regard to handling of
instruments, storage of drugs and disposal of sharps and other potentially
dangerous equipment and substances.

·       
All
staff are expected to work in such a way that does not cause injury to
themselves, other staff members or customers.

·       
Following
& complying with H&S policies, processes & applying them to their
own work activities, including using/wearing Personal Protective Equipment as
required.

·       
Participating
in activities directed at preventing harm & promoting well-being in the
workplace Identifying, reporting & self-managing hazards where appropriate.

·       
Early
and accurate reporting of incidents at work and raising issues of concern when
identified.

·       
Reports
any malfunction of equipment to the appropriate person (s) as soon as possible.

Spiritual Ministry

·       
Participates
in the hospital’s Spiritual Ministry programs.

Other duties

·       
Performs
any other related duties as may be assigned by Supervisor

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The
ideal candidate must hold a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery or its equivalent
from a recognized institution

·       
Must be
registered with the Medical and Dental Practitioners Council

·       
Ability
to handle or process confidential documents or material in an appropriate
manner

·       
Ability
to handle multiple tasks, establish priorities, and work independently

·       
Computer
literacy an added advantage
