The mission of the
Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is to “Strengthen Health Systems in Africa
with strong emphasis on Infectious Diseases through Research and Capacity
Development”. IDI has six operational areas through which it works to achieve
its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment, Training, Research, Laboratory
services (including the CAP-certified IDI Core Lab & Translational Lab),
Global Health Security and Health System Strengthening Programmes.

 

Job Summary:  The research Nurse’s primary role is to work
with the health facilities to ensure that the study is conducted according to
the study protocol.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Provide
study information to potential subjects prior to and during the consent
process.

·       
Obtain
and document informed participant consent

·       
Document
study procedures in participants care report forms

·       
Perform
blood draws as per study protocol

·       
Provide
nursing care to study participants

·       
Transcribe
all audio-recorded interviews

·       
Schedule
study participant visits

·       
Conduct
data quality control and assurance reviews

·       
Perform
any other study related duties as assigned

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The
applicant for the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) Research Nurse job must
hold a Nursing degree or diploma (Registered) from a recognized education
institution

·       
GCP
training and research experience is an added advantage

·       
Up to
date registration with Uganda Nurses’ and Midwives council

·       
Excellent
written and oral English communication skills

·       
Ability
to communicate to participants in the local language

·       
Demonstrate
knowledge and skills in nursing procedures and practices

·       
Good
counselling skills

·       
Well-developed
interpersonal skills and team player

·       
Excellent
organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize, schedule and manage
multiple tasks in a fast paced, dynamic environment

·       
Good
computer skills
