ACORD-U (Agency for
Cooperation in Research and Development – Uganda) is an indigenous Non
Governmental Organization (NGO) working for social justice and development.
ACORD has been working in Uganda since 1979 with operations in over 25
districts across Uganda. The ACORD-U works in conjunction with people who have
been denied their basic rights, helping to better understand, to challenge, and
to change the situation in which they find themselves.

 

About USAID KCHS Project:

The Agency for
Cooperation in Research and Development-Uganda (ACORD-U), received grants from
USAID, to implement the “Keeping Children Healthy and Safe (KCHS) Activity” in
South Western Uganda (Sheema, Mitooma, Kazo, Kiruhura and Ibanda Districts).

 

Job Summary:  The Economic Strengthening Officer will be
responsible for both youth and SILC related activities. Under the SILC docket
the ES Officer will be expected to conducting post-training supervision and
mentoring of the Field Agents to ensure proper mentorship of the SILC groups by
the Field Agents. The incumbent will identify ways to improve performance and
management of groups by the Field Agents. He/she will work directly with Social
Workers especially in areas of planning and coordination of field activities and
reporting. He/she will ensure that the SILC Field Agents (FAs) meet their
targets, attend group meetings as and when they are required, collect data from
the field and submit the same without delay.

 

S/he will
responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating activities for Youth in
the community. The job requires the incumbent to plan, supervise and coordinate
activities for the project aimed at reducing vulnerability for the youth and
children by using multi-sectoral approach to improve social economic status of
children and youth and their caregivers

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The
holder should possess a bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurship, Development
Economics, community development, Business Administration, Education or a
related field from a recognized institution, SYB certificate

·       
A post
graduate qualification in project management will be an added advantage.

·       
Two
years of consistent experience in a technical advisory/support role with an
NGO.

·       
Prior work
experience of managing NGOs community-based children and adolescent health
projects specifically HIV/AIDS, livelihoods and child protection.

·       
Experience
in working with Local Governments systems is an added advantage.

·       
The
careful selection and engagement of PSPs is critical, since the project will be
investing heavily to serve project beneficiaries in Savings and Internal
Lending Communities (SILC) groups. The objective of the PSP recruitment process
is to identify individuals with the right skills and motivation, who have been
training the SILC groups and its add-ons, will be accepted by the community and
supported by community leaders to execute SILC activities. There are two
complementary components to recruitment; the KCHS project can decide on the
appropriate importance of each component in its context.
