About US:

The mission of the
Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is to “Strengthen Health Systems in Africa
with strong emphasis on Infectious Diseases through Research and Capacity
Development”. IDI has six operational areas through which it works to achieve
its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment, Training, Research, Laboratory
services (including the CAP-certified IDI Core Lab & Translational Lab),
Global Health Security and Health System Strengthening Programmes.

With funding from  Centres for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC)/PEPFAR, and in partnership with MoH and respective District Local
Governments, IDI is implementing comprehensive HIV/AIDS services in the West
Nile region of Uganda under the project “Accelerating and Sustaining HIV
Epidemic Control and Related Diseases in West-Nile Region of Uganda under the
President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), 2020-2025”. The project
supports the 12 districts of; Arua, Maracha, Madi-Okollo, Terego, Koboko,
Yumbe, Moyo, Obongi, Adjumani, Pakwach, Nebbi and Zombo.

 

Job Summary: The
Site VMMC Mobiliser will participate in community mobilisation activities for
SMC, disseminate SMC &HIV Prevention messages, implement demand creation
plans for SMC services as well as support adoption of SMC mobilisation
strategy.

 

Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  

·       
Plan,
design and oversee the implementation of community mobilization and demand creation
activities for VMMC services in the assigned site.

·       
Develop
and disseminate SMC and HIV prevention messages in appropriate local languages.

·       
Participate
in the implementation of the community mobilization and demand creation plan
for VMMC services.

·       
Work
with team members to ensure the set targets for the site are achieved.

·       
Participate
in the implementation of the demand creation plan for SMC services amongst the
communities in the targeted sites.

·       
Adopt
the existing MOH SMC mobilization strategy to suit the different project sites.

·       
Support
the development of a brand name – emphasizing safety, no pain and benefits of
SMC

·       
Develop
and disseminate SMC and HIV prevention messages in appropriate languages
targeting primary and secondary audiences in the communities.

·       
Promote
advocacy for SMC in the site catchment areas

 

Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:

·       
The
applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Social
Administration, social sciences, Mass communication or related field.

·       
Three
years of proven working experience in mobilizing communities to utilize health
services.

·       
At least
two years of experience managing community mobilization teams

·       
Excellent
oral and computer presentation skills.

·       
Ability
to work under minimal supervision.

·       
Possession
of key personal competences in Team and communication skills, networking and
partnership skills.

·       
Experience
in mobilization for SMC will be an added advantage.

·       
Experience
of working in a medical setting, knowledge of the local language (Madi,Kakwa,
Alur, Lugbara) and some understanding of HIV/AIDS is highly desirable
