Hopkins University.” The group was founded in 1973 and initially called
the Johns Hopkins Program for International Education in Gynecology and
Obstetrics, but is now referred to simply as Jhpiego.

 

Job Summary:  The Logistics Assistant will provide
logistical/transport/office support for the Jhpiego office. This includes
maintaining office vehicle(s), ensuring that the vehicle policies are adhered
to, driving and assisting with other office duties.  She will maintain vehicle mileage and
related records as required by Jhpiego policies.  She will maintain any storage for program
related items, equipment and other materials and assets in the stores etc. As
well as maintaining the office generator.  
S/ he is expected to be flexible and work longer than normal office
hours when in the field and departing/arriving from the field.  Also, when not in the field the Driver is
expected to maintain stores registry and asset records for the office

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Driving Jhpiego’s office vehicle on official trips as necessary
  • Ensuring that Jhpiego’s vehicle(s) are well maintained and policies
    are adhered to
  • Maintaining vehicle mileage and other related records as required
  • Ensuring that all office vehicle(s) meets legal requirements e.g.
    insurance.
  • Ensuring that the office vehicle(s) have necessary vehicle
    accessories like spare tyres, lifesavers, toolbox, first aid kit, etc.
  • Responsible for monitoring fuel consumption and other minor vehicle
    maintenance issues.
  • Informing Administrative Officer in good time when service
    (minor/major) is due for vehicles and of any other repairs required for
    vehicles
  • Assist in running office errands either using the office vehicle or
    by public transport as need arises.
  • Assisting in other office functions like making photocopies, binding
    of documents and packing training materials for field travel and while in
    the field assist the Jhpiego team with other tasks.
  • Keeping the inventory of assets, ensuring that all items are
    registered and conducting inventories as requested.
  • Maintaining the Jhpiego stores by cleaning, tidying up and dusting
    the shelves, arranging and labeling the shelves and ensures that all
    materials, models, stationery, etc. are properly stored and accounted for.
  • Packing and issuing conference/ training workshops
    materials/equipment and ensuring that all are returned and in good order.
    A log of all materials released and received back will be maintained.
  • Cleaning the offices, toilets and common areas daily and maintaining
    general cleanliness during office hours.
  • Assists in setting up of office conference room and other logistics
    prior to meetings/training events.
  • Maintain the office generator. Undertake minor repairs and ensure
    adequate fuel supply.
  • Assist the Administrative Officer when necessary: Answer the
    telephone, forwards calls, provide phone assistance for outgoing calls
    ensuring messages are taking clearly and accurately. Receive visitors and
    direct them as necessary.
  • Assume other responsibilities as assigned.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate must hold an O’ level Education level
  • Valid Ugandan Drivers License
  • At least five years of experience in driving, three years of which
    should be on up-country routes and for long distances.
  • Knowledge of Ugandan traffic laws
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and trouble shooting
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English
  • Experience in maintaining generators
  • Experience in inventory and maintaining stores
