About US:

The mission of the
Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is to “Strengthen Health Systems in Africa
with strong emphasis on Infectious Diseases through Research and Capacity
Development”. IDI has six operational areas through which it works to achieve
its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment, Training, Research, Laboratory
services (including the CAP-certified IDI Core Lab & Translational Lab),
Global Health Security and Health System Strengthening Programmes.

With funding from  Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)/PEPFAR,
and in partnership with MoH and respective District Local Governments, IDI is
implementing comprehensive HIV/AIDS services in the West Nile region of Uganda
under the project “Accelerating and Sustaining HIV Epidemic Control and Related
Diseases in West-Nile Region of Uganda under the President’s Emergency Plan for
AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), 2020-2025”. The project supports the 12 districts of;
Arua, Maracha, Madi-Okollo, Terego, Koboko, Yumbe, Moyo, Obongi, Adjumani,
Pakwach, Nebbi and Zombo.

 

Job Summary: The
SMC Counsellor will conduct client counselling for comprehensive SMC while
ensuring high-level confidentiality without discrimination.

 

Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  

·       Provision of a full range of counselling
services to SMC clients

·       Identify clients’ needs and document
pertinent information

·       Ensure that all client information is
documented and stored in a manner that observes the highest levels of
confidentiality.

·       As part of the counselling service, assist
clients in formulating plans for addressing problem areas

·       Refer clients for further counselling to
other social support institutions as required

·       Work with the team to ensure the set VMMC
targets are met in accordance with guidelines.

·       Participate in community demand creation and
mobilization activities in supported districts

 

Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:

·       The ideal candidate must hold a diploma or
degree in counselling or a relevant health related field

·       Completion of a recognized course in a
counselling with a specialty in counselling services for persons living with
HIV/AIDS

·       At least two years of work experience in a
clinical setting preferably VMMC sites.

·       Applicants must be trained and certified to
provide counselling for SMC clients.

·       Excellent communication skills

·       Good counselling skills

·       Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.

·       Knowledge and understanding of recent
advances in HIV/AIDS.

·       Knowledge and understanding of one of the
local languages e.g. Alur, Lugbara, kakawa, Madi is highly desirable.
