About US:

Child Restoration
Outreach (CRO) is a Christian founded and registered Non-Government
Organization- S5914/667, established in 1992 with a national perspective, and
its Head Offices in Mbale Municipality located in Eastern Uganda. Currently CRO
operates in four branches: Mbale, Jinja, Masaka and Lira. It has, since inception,
impacted the lives of approximately over 7,000 street children and young people
through rehabilitation, reintegration in families, provision of vocational
skills, formal education in primary, secondary, tertiary schools and higher
institutes of learning. CRO works with the People’s Institutions to prevent
more children from coming on the streets and to support children already on the
streets with rehabilitation, reintegration, and education.

 Job Summary:  The Project Officer SHG Approach will establish
good relationships with the street children, their parents/guardians and to
mobilize the community to participate in the Self-Help Group approach in close
collaboration with the district leaders, CSO’s development partners and other
service providers

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Mobilizing
communities to form/establish, train, monitor Self Help Groups (SHGs) and
carrying out different stake-holder’s trainings i.e. teachers, CLAs, SHGs,
Local leaders etc.

·       
Facilitate
the promotion of Self-Help Groups (SHG).

·       
Strengthen
old SHGs, support CLAs to start up wise investments and CGs in the communities.

·       
Build
good relationship with street children and encourage them to attend the CRO
programs.

·       
Counsel
street children and their parents/guardians.

·       
Carry
out daily street walks, quarterly day and night counts of street children in
collaboration with other staff and PIs.

·       
Participate
in community training, workshops, meetings and outreaches.

·       
Assist
in the resettlement of street children.

·       
Liaise
with other local based groups to assist street children and their
parents/guardians.

·       
Share
the gospel of Jesus Christ with the children and their parents/guardians.

·       
Build an
effective collaborative relationship with the District, other NGOs, CBOs and
lower Local Government structures for smooth project implementation.

·       
In
collaboration with the supervisor, responds to all inquiries from donors
concerning the project.

·       
Prepares
detailed weekly and Monthly reports on activities and presents to the Program
Manager.

·       
Coordinates
with the Program Accountant to ensure that monthly financial reports are
accurate and timely.

·       
Work
with CCPCs in the communities to promote child rights and child protection
issues.

·       
Perform
any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by Management.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The
applicant should hold a bachelor’s degree in, Social Science or Social Work and
Social Administration or Development studies.

·       
Post
Graduate training in Project Management, Community Development is an added
advantage.

·       
A
minimum of three years of hands-on experience in implementing SHG Approach. At
least 3-5 years’ work experience with NGO in programming and communication for
children’s rights, in particular related to child protection and education;
proven experience with (child rights) advocacy and campaigning is an added
advantage.

·       
Strong
organizational and supervisory skills with excellent reporting & writing
skills.

·       
Strong
interpersonal, mobilization, analytical, report writing and communication
skills.

·       
An
excellent command of verbal and written English.

·       
Good
knowledge of Microsoft word and excel.

·       
Must be
able to communicate in Lumasaba and Luganda Track record of work experience in
collaboration and networking with partners and stakeholders

·       
Proven
ability to perform multi-tasking and ability to work on tight deadlines
