About Internship Opportunity

If you are thinking
of entering the world of international organizations and green growth, an
internship at the GGGI could be the ideal start for you. The objective of the
internship is to give you a first-hand experience of the day-to-day working at
GGGI. The Internship Program is a project-oriented learning opportunity for
graduate students to gain experience through research assignments based on
GGGI’s current operational needs. GGGI welcomes motivated, open-minded, and
self-directed individuals to apply. You will be given an opportunity to work
directly with outstanding and inspiring Green Growth professionals, participate
in workshops and meetings, and contribute to analytical work as well as
innovative rethinking on sustainable green growth. Interns will be selected
based on merit and cannot be children or siblings of current GGGI staff
members.

Job Summary:  We are looking for a talented individual to
work with us in the Sustainable Landscapes (SL) field to assist the team
especially with research and program development. All below deliverables are
Uganda focused. The intern will be working directly with the Uganda Country
Representative and with the Sustainable Landscape Thematic Lead in GGGI Head
Office and their team.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Stakeholder
Analysis within the relevant Sustainable Landscape-related sectors as agreed
upon at the start of the assignment. This includes private sector players,
financial institutions and civil society.

·       
Project
Analysis – Analysis of relevant government- and ODA-funded programmes and
projects and their geographic distribution.

·       
Environmental,
geographic and socio-economic information on biodiversity, deforestation and
land degradation hotspots.

·       
Policy
Analysis – Analysis of Government of Uganda plans, policies, strategies and
other relevant documents, together with an assessment of implementation gaps.

·       
Put
together a ‘Lessons Learned’ package containing key lessons learned in
agroforestry, forest protection and restoration, and Payments for Ecosystem
Services.

·       
Support
the team during relevant events, meetings and workshops.

·       
Support
project design, development and implementation where relevant.

·       
Provide
other support when requested.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The ideal
applicant should have completed a Masters or Ph.D. program in the past 12
months, or is currently enrolled in a Masters or Ph.D. Such should be in an
Agriculture, Forestry, Sustainable Landscapes or Environmental Management field
(or another relevant field)

·       
You are
committed and available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for the
contracted period in the GGGI office or any other mutually agreed upon location
within Kampala

·       
Proven,
strong academic and research track record

·       
Knowledge
and understanding of sustainable development issues

·       
Experience
in gathering, analysing and reporting data

·       
Self-motivated,
detail-oriented with good organizational skills

·       
Excellent
computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office and active usage of various
social media is an advantage

·       
Proven
analytical and report writing skills are advantageous.

Important information

·       
Stipend: GGGI interns receive a monthly stipend of USD$500 per month. All costs
related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne
by either the interns or their sponsoring institutions.

·       
Medical Insurance: Interns must present proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI upon
returning the signed internship contract.

·       
Confidentiality: Interns must keep confidential any and all unpublished information
obtained during the course of the internship and may not publish any documents
based on such information.

·       
Academic Credit: Interns may get academic credit from their institution of higher
education for the internship. Interns need to check with their university to
confirm their academic credit policy for internships. This is only relevant for
interns that are still in an academic program.

·       
Working Hours: Interns are expected to work during normal working hours. Leave should
be pre-approved by the Intern Manager, and the latter should inform the Office
of HR accordingly.

·       
Learning Outcomes: Before completion of the internship, Intern Managers are expected to
review the learning outcomes with the intern.
