Duty Station: Kikagati, Isingiro District, Site Based position, Uganda

Reports to: KPCL Project Manager and E&M Manager

About US:

Kikagati Power
Company Limited (KPCL) is set to construct a 14MW hydropower plant on the
Kagera river that marks the border between the Republic of Uganda and United
Republic of Tanzania. The project is located within Nyakayojo village, Kikagati
Town Council, Isingiro district in Uganda and Murongo village, Murongo ward,
Kyerwa District in Kagera region.

              

Key Duties and Responsibilities: The role will include, but not be limited to,
the following activities and responsibilities:

·       
Harmonise
Project technical compliance with relevant local authorities.

·       
Inspect,
supervise, and monitor EPC contractor/subcontractor quality and performance.

·       
Maintain
records of materials and equipment certifications, inspection reports.

·       
Monitored
daily progress of the work and submit monitoring Report.

·       
Oversee
performance of subcontractors during construction and installation and provide
direction with approval from Project/Line manager and or E&M Manager.

·       
Sign
acceptance of the various completed Mechanical works components (Turbines,
Generators, Mechanical balance of plants and Hydraulic steel structure works,
processes and installations on behalf of the Project Manager.

·       
Review
proposed materials, designs, manuals, schedules, and work plans.

·       
Responsible
for Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality performance of contractors and
the project for the Electromechanical department generally.

·       
Review
and approve quality documents, MS (method statements), ITP, FQP and QCR if
found appropriate and fit for purpose.

·       
Attend
Inspection/tests upon completion of Mechanical and Hydromechanical
installations and assembly of works according to the requirements of the
contract.

·       
Notify
non-conforming works to the contractor thereby to issue a relevant NCR
(non-conformity report) and submit the treatment method to mitigate.

·       
Evaluate
and comment Commissioning and O&M Manuals.

·       
Participate
on Dry & Wet commissioning of sub-systems and systems.

·       
Revise
and comment on the supply of Mechanical, workshop and store equipment delivered
following the requirement of the contract.

·       
Support
other projects developed by Berkeley Energy in Uganda in the same capacity of
Mechanical Supervisor as deemed necessary by the Company.

·       
And
attend any other project related assignments may be required by the company
from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Essential:

·       
Bachelor’s
degree in Mechanical Engineering from a reputable institution.

·       
Minimum
5 years’ experience in a related field.

·       
Fluency
in English (written and oral).

Preferable:

·       
Previous
construction site experience.

·       
Previous
experience in hydro power, rotating machinery, or other heavy mechanical
engineering field.

·       
Good
knowledge of welding process.
