Centenary Bank is a
commercial bank in Uganda. It is one of the commercial banks licensed by the
Bank of Uganda, the central bank and national banking regulator

Job Summary:  The Senior Legal Officer will draft and review legal documents including
pleadings, contracts, credit facilities and securities and represent the bank
in legal matters including in courts of law in line with the law, bank
policies, regulations and best practice

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

·       Represent the Bank in courts of law, and also
represent the Legal Division at management meetings.

·       Provide legal advice, draft and review legal
correspondence by/to the Bank, including notices to instigate court action and
follow through to ensure that consumers and Bank rights are protected or
enforced as the case may be.

·       Support Management in identifying emerging
legal risk, mitigants and in setting performance measures and recommend action
in respect of external counsel services.

·       Draft and review contracts to be executed by
the Bank in its operations including but not limited to commercial and finance
contracts, engagements with partners, review and renewal of leases and tenancy

·       Perfection and registration of customer
credit transactions documents and securities respectively for compliance with
relevant standards and legislation. Conduct periodical review of credit
documentation and make recommendations to Management.

·       Conduct legal research and provide sound and
proactive legal advice for the Bank’s compliance with new legislation and best
practices impacting the operating environment.

·       Review investigation reports and make
appropriate recommendations for legal action to redress/safeguard the Bank’s
assets and reputation.

·       Support Management in delivering, monitoring
and reporting compliance with the divisional operating plan, budget and service
level agreements.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       The ideal applicant must a bachelor’s degree
in law and Post graduate diploma in legal practice (LDC)

·       At least Four (4) years post enrolment active
court practice; experience in the commercial, land, industrial and criminal
divisions will be an added advantage.

·       Following instructions and apt knowledge of
civil and criminal Procedures

·       Proactive planning and organization skills
with ability to generate initiatives or innovate to bring about continuous improvement
in performance of the function

·       Writing and report preparation with a view of
attaining customer expectations and satisfying Bank standards.

·       Proper analysis of legal content and ability
to generate good business solutions

·       Delivering Operational Excellence with
minimum supervision
