The mission of the Infectious
Diseases Institute (IDI) is to strengthen health systems in Africa, with a
strong emphasis on infectious diseases through research and capacity
development. IDI has five operational areas through which it works to achieve
its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research, Laboratory
services (including the CAP-certified IDI Core Lab) and Outreach.

Job Summary:  The Communication Graduate Trainee will capture
and develop communication materials for programme beneficiaries, donors, and
other internal and external stake holders.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Communications Strategy:

·       
Support the
development and implementing of the communication Strategy through highlighting
the projects impact, challenges and lessons learned to our beneficiaries so as
to increase support for project/ funder response

·       
Participate in
identifying innovative communication, public relations platforms that will help
in showcasing IDI work.

Events Management:

·       
Participate in
conducting awareness campaigns, events, information dissemination workshops,
etc. for target groups.

·       
Participate in
organizing project’s events and commemorations for example the World HIV
Vaccine Awareness and World AIDS days.

·       
Support
photography needs

Stakeholder Database:

·       
Contribute to the
development, management and maintenance of the stakeholder’s contact list for
active participation in IDI events.

·       
Participate in
disseminating communication materials to relevant stakeholders.

Social media management

·       
Support the flow
of content to IDI social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

·       
Develop spotlight
pieces for posting on the website to promote IDI visibility and work

·       
Monitor and track
viewership on all social media channels so as to support quarterly reporting

Media relations:

·       
Participating in
mobilizing media for press conferences, media trainings, science cafes etc.

·       
Developing IEC
materials

·       
Participate in
updating content found in all IDI programmatic Information Education and Communication
(IEC) materials.

·       
Support the
documentation of program success stories and the compilation of IDI’s annual
report

·       
Work closely with
procurement team to follow up the production and delivery of materials with
selected vendors/suppliers

Video Production: Participate in the development of short videos, which
shall be used as content for IDI vlogs.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The applicant for
the Communication Graduate Trainee job must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mass
communication or Journalism or related field.

·       
Post Graduate
training in media or other relevant field is an added advantage.
