Construction Company Limited (NHCC) was founded in 1964 and is a Ugandan
construction and real estate management company, partly owned by the Uganda
Government. The Company’s mandate is to increase the housing stock in the
country, rehabilitate the housing industry and encourage Ugandans to own homes
in an organized environment.

Job Summary:    The Senior Building Services Engineer will
be responsible for ensuring that all Electrical and Mechanical designs and
works at Company project sites are competently designed, well planned and
carried out according to professional standards, specifications, established
procedures and best practices.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure that proper Electrical & Mechanical workmanship and
    adherence to specifications/designs at construction sites are done
  • Plan, design and Interpret Electrical & Mechanical drawings and
    specifications, as well as prepare relevant cost estimates, working
    sketches, as and when required
  • Supervise and inspect all Electrical & Mechanical works at all
    Company project sites and property as well as guiding Foreman to ensure
    that M&E works are properly maintained or set out for contractors in a
    timely manner at every critical stage of construction.
  • Ensure that correct Electrical & Mechanical materials, work
    methods and specifications are adhered to.
  • Ensure timely requisition of Electrical & Mechanical materials
    from stores and that material wastage is eliminated or kept at a minimum.
  • Ensure that Health and Safety compliance by the work force are
    enforced, as well as ensuring clean and safe working environments and
    working conditions.
  • Supervise and carry out measurement of contractors’ work done for
    purposes of certification and payment.
  • Ensure correct use and safety of tools and equipment.
  • Manage and develop staff under his/her supervision, through  inter alia, professional training,
    coaching, mentoring, delegation, appraisal and feedback
  • Provide the Company’s Management, whenever necessary, with relevant
    specialist, expert and technical advice regarding electrical and
    mechanical aspects to guide the Company’s investment opportunities and
    projects

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant for the National Housing & Construction Company
    Limited Senior Building Services Engineer job placement must hold a
    Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, or
    Building services Engineering or a closely related and relevant
    discipline, from a recognized University.
  • Full and valid membership of a nationally, or internationally
    recognized professional Engineers Institute, or body, such as MUIPE, is a
    MUST.
  • Specialized training, with appropriate qualifications in Project
    Planning and Management, from a recognized institution shall be an added
    advantage.
  • Proven knowledge and Competence in the following design software is
    a MUST (AutoCAD, Revit, ArchCAD etc).
  • Proven knowledge and 
    skills  in  application of  Engineering-related Software  and 
    MS  Office Packages
    (especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint) shall be an added advantage.
  • Relevant working experience of 5 years as an Electrical and/or Mechanical
    Engineer, or in a similar position, in a large and reputable Construction,
    or Civil Works Company, or reputable Consultancy firm, or on any other
    large civil works project.
  • Experience in working with public, or private sector organizations
    involved in housing-related projects, or programs, shall be an added
    advantage.
  • Good understanding of the building industry
  • Cost consciousness, innovation and ability to pursue value for money
  • Planning, coordination, and networking skills.
  • Project supervision skills
  • Interpersonal, and human relations skills
  • Coordination and networking skills
  • Strong IT and computer proficiency skills.
