Job Summary: The Communications and Knowledge Management
Specialist – ILRI will support with the communication of ILRI research results
emanating from Uganda. He or she will work as a team member of the Country
Uganda Program Office, the Livestock CGIAR Research Program, the Animal Health
Program funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and
Development (BMZ), and the ILRI Communication and Knowledge Management
Department.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Livestock CGIAR Research
Program
- Work closely with the Livestock CGIAR Research Program
Communications Manager to identify priorities and activities - Contribute blog posts for the Livestock CGIAR Research Program
website - Contribute to outcome and innovation stories on the Livestock CGIAR
Research Program’s integrated work in Uganda - Work with scientists to package information to be shared with
national stakeholders - Liaise with multi-stakeholder pig platforms to document their
activities and lessons learned - Animal Health Program
- Develop and implement a communication plan
- Develop and oversee a crisis communication plan
- Provide regular updates on project findings and activities to key
stakeholders - Support production of knowledge products from project findings
- Maintain and update online content, including Ugandan social media
sites - Facilitate and promote knowledge sharing through maintainance of the
project SharePoint page - Country Uganda Program Office and ILRI
- Maintain a list of media and partner contacts
- Produce communication materials
- Contribute to ILRI Communications and Knowledge Management
activities - Liaise with the ILRI Communications and Knowledge Management
Department to ensure that all materials meet ILRI branding and quality
requirements
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant should preferably hold a Master’s Degree in a relevant
subject (e.g. Communications, Journalism) - At least five years of relevant experience with communications for
development or agriculture - Proven ability to communicate research findings using various media
- Strong English language skills, both written and spoken
- Proven interpersonal-, and cross-cultural skills, including ability
to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and to develop
strong and effective working relationships with partners - Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an engaging
personality - Ability to communicate with different stakeholders from inside and
outside Uganda - Good judgment and willingness to take initiative
- Ability to work under pressure
- Willingness to travel both regionally and internationally
- Desirable qualifications and competencies
- Experience working in an international organisation and/or in
applied agricultural research
