About US:

The National
Association of Women’s Organisations in Uganda (NAWOU) is an umbrella
organisation of women founded and women led organisations that registered as a
Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in 1993. Its membership category is
District Networks, which are clusters of women’s Community Based Organisations
(CBOs), Faith Based Organisations (FBOs) and NGOs, national NGOs, nationally
registered FBOs and women’s professional bodies. NAWOU is one of the most
grounded women’s organisations in Uganda as its members can be found across the
country. NAWOU is also one of the oldest Ugandan women’s organisations as it
was originally founded as the National Council for Women in the 1960’s.

About Project:

NAWOU in partnership
with the UN Women  and with financial
support from the EU-UN Spotlight Initiative to Eliminate Violence Against Women
and Girls is  embarking on an 18 month
project that seeks to create a strong and inclusive women’s movement to advance
Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) and advocate for ending Violence
Against Women and Girls (VAWG), including Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV)/ Harmful
Practices (HP) and promoting Sexual Reproductive Health Rights.

Job Summary:  The Assistant Project Officer will be
responsible for planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting for the UN
Women project on advancing GEWE and strengthening the women’s movement in the
target districts. S/He will ensure that the project meets its targets within
the specified technical support in the planning, implementation, coordination,
and reporting of field activities with the aim of advancing GEWE.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Plan, process and implement activities in line with the project
    narrative, logical framework and monitoring frameworks
  • Prepare periodic project reports in line with organizational and
    donor reporting guidelines 
  • Manage and report on finances for activities at field level and
    petty cash for field operations
  • Support networks to conduct organizational capacity assessments,
    prepare capacity development plans and provide the necessary support
  • Support member organisations and district networks in their area of
    work to design and strengthen advocacy initiatives relating to prevention
    and response to Violence and Against Women (VAWG) including SGBV and
    promoting SHRH
  • Carry out project monitoring and evaluation with support from the
    monitoring and evaluation team, using appropriate tools designed by the
    organization to keep track of project deliverables and progress.
  • Represent NAWOU in steering committee meetings, review meetings and
    local government meetings related to the project and relevant sectors.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicants for the Assistant Project Officer position must hold
    a university degree in social sciences, development studies or any related
    field from a recognized University
  • Postgraduate qualification in project planning and management,
    gender studies or any related field is an asset
  • At least two years of relevant working experience preferably in an
    INGO or NGO.
  • Extensive experience in human rights, gender equality and
    prevention/response to VAWG work
  • Ability to interpret project and program documents, and roll out the
    work plan
  • Ability to work independently, with local government, civil society
    and communities
  • Must be proficient in computer i.e. MS. Word, Excel, use of
    internet, Power point and other computer applications
  • Must know how to ride a motorcycle  
  • Knowledge of the local languages spoken  in the target districts is an added
    advantage
