DFCU Limited was started by the Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC) of the
United Kingdom and the Government of Uganda through the Uganda Development
Corporation (UDC) under the name of Development Finance Company of Uganda
Limited. Later restructuring brought in DEG (of Germany) and International
Finance Corporation (IFC) as equal partners with CDC and UDC, each having a 25%
stake in the company. Its objective was to support long-term development
projects whose financing needs and risk did not appeal to the then existing
financial commercial lending institutions.

Job Summary:  The Head of Data Analytics will ensure that
the Bank has accurate and timely financial information that aids decision
making and provide deep analysis on current as well as predictive data. The
incumbent will manage the Bank’s financial models in line with the model
governance framework. Value-mine the Bank’s systems, (in particular, Finacle
core banking system) and maximise benefits to the Bank through providing
centralised, seamless management information and business intelligence services
through the development and deployment of efficient data interrogation tools;
continuous performance improvement and user training.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Provide the one stop shop for all data
    needs for the entire Bank.
  • Lead and motivate the team of the bank’s
    data analysts, aligning the team to the overall bank driven strategy and
    maintaining a decision support system that is dependable.
  • Design, implement, embed and monitor
    data quality standards across the bank. Identify gaps, design structure
    and processes to plug gaps, oversee execution, test and validate, enhance
    system requirements to enforce data quality.
  • Design efficient predictive /
    forecasting models which enable scenario planning across the bank.
  • Provide decision support to the business
    leadership and management using business intelligence.
  • Customize reports, query tools and
    alerts both on historic data and predictive modelling for Corporate,
    Personal & Business Banking, Credit, Finance, Risk, Internal Audit,
    Marketing, Strategy, Treasury and other user groups as they may arise.
  • Embedding market intelligence,
    competitor analysis and trend analysis into the data analytics practices
    of the bank.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant for the DFCU Bank Head of
    Data Analytics job placement must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics
    or Accounting or Finance with statistical bias; Computer Science.
  • Seven years working experience with at
    least three years’ experience with databases and management information
    systems.
  • Professional certification in database
    management Statistical background an advantage.
  • Excellent use of MS Office – Excel,
    Word, PowerPoint, Access.
  • Strong numeracy, analytical and problem
    solving skills.
  • Industry knowledge and business
    awareness.
  • Highly innovative.
  • Good organization and time management
    skills.
  • Strong communication, negotiation,
    interpersonal and team working skills.
