Mengo Hospital was
founded in 1897 in Kampala, and is the oldest hospital in Uganda. It currently
serves as an urban community hospital that provides modern medical care. Mengo
Hospital provides comprehensive care including radiology, obstetrics,
dentistry, orthopedics, and surgery. Additionally, Mengo Hospital provides
critical training and education to health professionals through its various
programs in midwifery and nursing, health sciences, and laboratory technology.
Mengo Hospital also has a dedicated research and development team that works to
find new solutions to health issues in Uganda.

Job Summary:   The Works Supervisor will provide support in
accelerating infrastructural rehabilitation and development to enable provision
of a conducive healing, learning and working environment as set out in the
Hospital s Strategic Plan.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Manage all maintenance and construction operations in the Hospital
  • To prepare technical specifications of construction projects in
    liaison with the users and administration team
  • To ensure quality of design documents
  • To offer continuous supervision and support to Plumbers,
    Electricians, Carpenters and Manson s and other contracted staff of the
    workshop
  • To assess and verify materials delivered on site before use
  • To prepare and submit timely reports on all ongoing works
  • To carry out inspection of ongoing works in the electrical,
    plumbing, mechanical and other related sections in the Hospital
  • To supervise contractors and sub-contractors during ongoing
    constructions
  • To ensure quality of work by developing appropriate monitoring and
    evaluation tools
  • To develop technical work plans with consultation from users and
    Administration team
  • To supervise the cleaning company and ensure that Hospital ambience
    is well maintained
  • To support in planning and budgeting of Hospital infrastructural
    projects

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate must hold a Higher Diploma in Building and Civil
    Engineering
  • At least two  years of
    experience in civil works construction, tools and equipment handling
  • Proficient use of Arch CAD software, Auto CAD, ArcGIS/Arc View with
    ease
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Good team player
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment with minimum
    supervision
  • Proactive
  • Must be a person of high integrity
