Job Summary: The
Senior Accountant is overly responsible for the supervision of the daily
operations of the finance section and the accounting and financial reporting
systems of the organisation; ensuring that the country office meets the monthly
reporting deadlines without exception. To assure the integrity of the country
office financial records and enforcing internal controls. Using the standard
financial and accounting procedures in line with the WWF Field Operation Manual
and Project Management Guidelines, the Senior Accountant will ensure that the
day to day financial information processed in the system is accurate, complete
and reliable.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Support the FAM in the consolidation of the Annual and bi-annual
    budget forecasts for the country office and upload of approved budgets to
    the accounting system
  • Ensure that staff adhere to the set internal controls for effective
    financial management
  • Ensure proper month end closure within the accounting system taking
    note of differed and accrual adjustments, cost recoveries journals and
    reconciliation of inter-company transactions
  • Review payments and accountabilities for accuracy of allocation to
    appropriate budget lines and completeness and
  • Oversight to the petty cash and Banking processes and periodic
    validation checks
  • Generate the Monthly Trial Balance for review by the Finance Manager
    ensuring that all each time has the correct balances and that any identified
    anomalies can be explained or corrected promptly
  • Ensure that statutory obligations are complied with regarding NSSF,
    PAYE, LST and monthly VAT refund claims from URA are processed
  • Support in reviewing the monthly staff payroll for accuracy
  • Provide requisite support in internal and external audit and other
    review exercises by auditors, donors etc.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant for the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Senior
    Accountant job must hold a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a
    related field
  • At least level 2 of CPA/ACCA.
  • A minimum of four years of experience in a busy finance and
    accounting of multiple donor funded projects.
  • Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Experience of working in an NGO or a civil society organisation
    working on monitoring and evaluation.

  • Planning, organisation, time management, facilitation, and
    coordination
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Proficiency in MS Office and the web
  • Knowledge of budgeting, planning and reporting on donor funded
    projects.
  • Knowledge/Experience of working with accounting packages e.g:
    Oracle, Sun systems etc.
  • Strong Book-keeping/ Accounting skills. Good knowledge of
    administrative and accounting regulations and International Accounting
    Standards/GAAP
  • The ability to work under pressure and on tight deadlines.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills, including the ability to develop
    and maintain strong relationships at all levels, within WWF UCO and, as
    required, with external stakeholders;
  • Experience with project accounting, management and reporting;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English;
