2002 under number 52003 by the registrar of Companies of the Republic of
Uganda.

Job Summary:  The Maintenance Engineer / Mechanical will
manage the fleet maintenance function of the company. The incumbent will also
support the procurement function by providing timely and adequate
specifications of plant machinery and spare parts to ease their procurement.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Setup/update the detailed maintenance management system
  • Budget for the annual maintenance program
  • Plan, schedule and execute comprehensive annual maintenance program.
  • Continuously train the equipment operators and vehicle drivers in
    basic maintenance and housekeeping practices.
  • Tag machine operators and driver’s performance to maintenance
    adherence, maintenance costs and downtime of the asset they are
    responsible for review every fortnight. There should be monetary
    consequences to the machine operators and drivers for failure to adhere to
    the maintenance requirements unless it is beyond their control.
  • Log reported faults, track and rectify them within set response
    periods (closely supervise the company mechanics and third party
    contractors to ensure quality and expeditious works are done) tag the
    mechanics performance to the quality off work done (track repairs
    reliability and performance duration).
  • Manage the recovery of machinery/vehicles broken down on highways or
    public areas.
  • In liaison with the procurement department maintain a team of
    efficient maintenance service providers at cost effective rates.
  • Provide monthly or every fortnight reports to top management on the key
    performance indicators.
  • Manage the health, safety, social and environment (HSSE) issues
    arising from the maintenance process.
  • Routine monitoring of plants and vehicles to avoid delays in reports
    of break down.
  • Maintain a repair service and maintenance monitoring system for ail
    plant, equipment and vehicles.
  • Maintain and update an assets register for plant, equipment and
    vehicles.
  • And any other task that will be assigned by management from time to
    time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant must hold a Higher National Diploma/ Bachelor’s Degree
    in mechanical related field.
  • Relevant training in fleet maintenance management will be an added
    advantage
  • At least five years of related work experience
  • Hands on maintenance of earthmoving equipment and vehicles.
  • Practical experience in maintenance management.
  • High integrity, a team player and motivated by achievement
  • Good analytical and negotiation skills
  • Financial management
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good understanding of health, safety, social and environment (HSSE)
    in regards to maintenance.
